Introduction to the job

ASML leverages a large network of external partnerships to extend our Research and Development roadmaps. ASML has relied upon our engagement with an array of external partners to develop the innovations and technologies required to extend lithography. Together with these partners (including, e.g., Universities and National Laboratories) we execute projects delivering advanced knowledge for technologies aligned with future source needs (DUV, EUV, etc.), as well as enabling a critical talent pipeline towards San Diego.

Together with the technologists and business leaders of the business lines, this position will drive the strategy and roadmap for our external partner engagement, and will manage the execution of the agreed portfolio of projects and other interactions with these entities, with the objective of ensuring appropriate technology learning and talent pipelining towards ASML.

Role and responsibilities

  • Coordinate existing external programs, including ensuring execution and maintaining alignment with each program's learning and talent objectives. This includes interaction with external program representatives and internal stakeholders (such as projects sponsoring the activities).

  • Evolve our current external program strategy to adapt and improve our interactions with external partners, in alignment with the needs of the relevant sectors in the San Diego site (Development and Engineering, Research, and other sectors). In addition, ensure this strategy remains aligned as business and roadmap needs evolve over time.

  • Based on the aligned strategy, take action to expand and/or deepen our network of external partners - which includes the identification of potential new partners and initiating engagement with these partners, as well as managing existing partner relationships. This includes also developing and managing the financial budget for the interactions.

  • Interface with Legal and Contracts Management as required to establish the required contractual and IP agreements for each new interaction, or for updating existing interactions based on change of scope.

  • Together with Government Affairs teams, investigate potential (new) external funding options (grants etc) for projects or for establishing teaching capability that may be used (wherever possible) to provide additional funding supporting the strategy.

  • Ensure that potential talent for ASML arising from these interactions is identified and tracked as possible future hires, and track our hiring progress across all external partner institutions as one of the key performance metric.

  • Coordinate with full cross-sector and supporting functions at ASML to maintain visibility and reputation of ASML and the external partnerships portfolio. This includes collaborating with internal and external communications, employer branding, legal, export controls, HR, talent acquisition, etc.

  • Plans and coordinates the identification, elicitation of requirements; conducts analysis of those requirements for completion and alignment; documents and manages requirements throughout the life of the project; and coordinates the verification of the end deliverable. Builds and reviews improvement solutions and develops recommendations for implementation of those improvements. Generally done at the project level.

  • Leads a medium to large project team; defines the project vision and communicates the outcomes needed along with guidance to achieve outcome, manages resources across projects/programs; negotiates flow of additional team members on and off the team as needed; and builds the capability of the team through training, coaching and mentoring.

Education and experience

  • Preferred minimum educational requirement is a Masters or PhD in physical sciences or engineering. Business training (eg MBA) highly regarded but not required.
  • Minimum 5 years experience, with at least 3 years experience in managing projects with external business partners; Experience with onboarding external partners, including establishing legal / contractual framework.
  • Has substantial general work experience with thorough experience in project management in technical industrial environment. Has expert process and organizational knowledge to make (process) decisions on critical moments in the project.

The current base annual salary range for this role is currently:

$117,000-195,000

Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
