In the role of a Server Engineer II you will be working in our Finance and Administration Department. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Under general direction, the Server Engineer II maintains, repairs, installs and supports MCW server/storage infrastructure and related hardware and software.
- Work with the Server team resources meet department goals, priorities and initiatives.
- Complete tickets thoroughly and on a timely basis. Communicate with the service desk regarding all tickets and service requests as needed.
- Represent the server team with customers, peers, co-workers and partners. As directed, assist leadership with planning
- Act as a resource to the Server team in areas of expertise.
- Assure standards are met for all assigned projects and service activities.
- Work to maintain performance, capacity and operations targets for MCW managed servers and services.
- Provide diligent intermediate service including: installation, upgrade, security administration and basic troubleshooting for servers and services.
- Provide daily server technical administration and support, including change management requests, and monitoring.
- Assist the customer with, ensure the operation of and review backups, operating system, anti-virus and utility applications/services are patched, maintained and monitored as needed.
- Provide feedback for improvements in automation and process for the server team.
- Develop strategies to provide efficient and accurate use of systems utilization and monitoring data.
- Troubleshoot basic end user, desktop, server, storage and application errors related to the server infrastructure.
- Advise coworkers, consultants, and users on intermediate server operations and server security.
- Assist and advise server subject matter experts with the operating system (O/S) and general operations of MCW managed servers.
- Demonstrate initiative through expansion of: technical knowledge, interpersonal skills, business knowledge, and organizational skills.
- Maintain technical relevancy in networking technologies through education, reading and research.
- Work closely with service desk, network, operations and application support teams to meet day to day operational needs.
OTHER DUTIES
- Participate in server team call rotation including weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Participate in scheduled and unscheduled after hours and weekend work as needed. With at least 4 or more hours of work outside normal work schedule per month.
- Receive and appropriately respond to email, alerts and other updates relative to projects, call rotation and system outages outside normal work hours.
- Travel to various MCW sites.
- Be available during normal shifts as directed by the Server Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES The ideal candidate will have:
- Understanding of the fundamentals and has expertise with: Linux / Unix, Microsoft Server Technologies, Storage (IP/fiber-SAN/NAS), O365, SQL, Sun, and/or other server technologies. (Citrix, enterprise backups, enterprise storage concepts)
- Experience in most technical aspects of networking including: hardware configurations, basic O/S installation, O/S troubleshooting for Linux/Unix/Microsoft Windows, Sun, and/or Alternate Server O/S's.
- Written and verbal communication, presentation, client service and technical writing skills.
- Good analytical skills and the demonstrated ability to raise concerns and problems in a clear and concise fashion and provide some solutions.
- A positive attitude, working effectively with cross-functional team resources including, but not limited to team lead, project manager, customers, engineers, System Administrators and members of the leadership team.
- A goal based orientation and a focus on results.
- A strong sense of responsibility
- At least four years of experience in server technology and a certification or equivalent expertise.
