THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is actively looking to hire a Highway Equipment Manager 2, a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the planning, direction, and management of the highway equipment program within a District Office or County Maintenance Organization. This position entails a comprehensive understanding of equipment operations, maintenance protocols, and resource allocation to ensure the efficient functioning of highway services. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing a preventative maintenance program for designated equipment and facilities within a county maintenance organization. Your duties will include conducting inspections of the assigned equipment to assess the necessity for repairs, replacements, or ongoing maintenance. You will engage in negotiations with dealers and garage owners to discuss repair costs, parts pricing, available discounts, and to facilitate warranty inspections. Additionally, you will oversee the operations of the TEO B Low-boy operator and the TEO B Pony Truck operator, ensuring effective coordination of equipment relocations and scheduling deliveries with the Pony Truck driver. Furthermore, you will manage the training, testing, and certification program for equipment operators, ensuring that each operator is assigned specific equipment based on their qualifications and certifications, thereby maintaining a high standard of safety and efficiency in operations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Schedule may vary seasonally, due to weather, and/or due to operational needs.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on an ad-hoc basis per manager's discretion. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,736.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Highway Equipment Manager 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of experience in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel engines and other components of heavy highway maintenance and construction vehicles and equipment including two years of such experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Conditions of Employment:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • This position requires Tank (N) and Hazmat (H) or Tank/Hazmat (X) endorsements.
  • This position requires valid PA Class 1, Class 4 or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification.
  • This position requires one year of experience or training in the repair or maintenance of diesel engines.
