Meijer offers an 11-week internship program that challenges interns to deliver innovative solutions to real projects that impact the business. Throughout the course of the internship experience, we deliver diverse personal and professional development opportunities that further develop skillsets that can be implemented both during and after the program. The internship program will allow for interaction with other interns and Meijer senior leaders.

What you will be doing as a Compliance Intern:

The Meijer Compliance Department's mission is to listen and partner with our fellow Meijer team members to achieve their business goals using proactive, strategic, and creative solutions.

The corporate compliance intern will learn from a variety of practical, real-world corporate compliance experiences including the following:

  • Opportunity to support the team in one or more of the following compliance areas: responsible sourcing, key risk indicators & data analytics, audit, code of ethics, policies & procedures, training, records information management, and design & evaluation of corporate compliance programs
  • Effectively communicate & project manage in a fast-paced legal environment
  • Develop knowledge in the history & evolution of corporate compliance programs
  • Learn how to design & evaluate a modern corporate compliance program
  • Conduct legal research and provide recommendations regarding the latest government enforcement trends in an emerging risk legal area
  • Conduct risk-based analysis of data
  • Gain executive-level presentation skills and present in an internal meeting
  • Learn the specialized skillset needed to become a compliance professional - including the art of building business relationships and providing strategic advice

Qualifications:

  • Progress toward a bachelor's degree in business, accounting, economics, finance, management, or a related field
  • A very high level of internal integrity
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent reading and research skills
  • Independent thinker, with strong critical reasoning and problem-solving skills - ability to thrive working in gray areas
  • Self-starter, able to manage ambiguity and possessing courage to try new things
  • Capable of building new relationships and possessing emotional intelligence
  • Comfort in a corporate environment, including being amongst senior business executives
  • Dedicated to exceeding customer expectations
  • A passion to compete
  • Microsoft Office experience, with the flexibility and desire to learn additional technology skills for using varied systems and tools
