The Position

The Opportunity

Medical Operations - Education & Communication (MOEC), a function within US Medical (USM), focuses on healthcare stakeholders having access to scientific evidence and the confidence in that evidence to make informed treatment decisions. MOEC has a pivotal role in bridging internal partner functions (including USM, Research, Product Development, Commercial, and Government Affairs) and collaborating across the dynamic health ecosystem to ultimately deliver better patient outcomes.

The Sr. Education and Scientific Communication Lead sits at the heart of an organization dedicated to transforming clinical practice and closing healthcare gaps. The role at Genentech's state-of-the-art campus is crucial for guiding the business in funding independent medical education (IME) and executing publications that support strategic medical and educational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Publications Strategy and Execution: Develop and manage internal Evidence for Access (E4A) research publication and dissemination processes and guidelines that are aligned with all applicable Global Roche requirements to ensure the compliant, appropriate, and timely interpretation, implementation, and application of evidence generated by Evidence for Access.

  • Oversee research publication and dissemination, ensuring compliance with global requirements and timely, appropriate publication of evidence.

  • Develop and manage detailed dissemination strategies for various research initiatives, communicating findings internally and externally through publications, presentations, and social media.

  • Partner with colleagues to develop scientific content, summaries, visuals, and communications for high-complexity projects, while synthesizing organizational insights to inform strategies.

  • Manage vendor selection and contracting for scientific communications, ensuring high-quality deliverables, and maintaining a strong understanding of compliance, legal, and regulatory topics. Ensure alignment of all communication activities with key functions and Genentech policy positions.

Independent Medical Education: Provide grants for independent medical education as part of Genentech's ongoing commitment to advancing disease understanding, epidemiology, disease mechanisms, and open dialogue on clinical strategies, including therapeutic options.

  • Utilizes expertise in independent medical education (IME) to assess HCP educational needs, develop strategic IME plans, and ensure program quality and compliance.

  • Evaluates grant requests, leads cross-functional Grants Review Committees, and makes strategic recommendations to Medical Teams based on activity outcomes.

  • Coordinates the development and maintenance of criteria for assessing IME providers and grant applications.

  • Maintains current knowledge of Genentech products, strategies, and external factors impacting IME, evaluating trends to inform medical education strategies and enable informed decision-making.

Who you are

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree required in Life Sciences or other relevant technical disciplines

  • 3+ years of multi-disciplinary experience in the biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of, or the aptitude to learn, the legal and regulatory environment as it relates to medical education and scientific publications in the biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry

  • Must demonstrate the ability to influence and lead without authority

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Advanced degree is preferred

  • Previous work-experience in medical education, publication planning, and/or medical affairs

  • Demonstrates strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills, coupled with an unwavering commitment to integrity and quality.

  • Exhibits excellent problem-solving abilities, capable of systematic and creative solutions, and works independently with minimal supervision.

  • Possesses excellent interpersonal and partnering skills, fostering effective collaboration and understanding organizational dynamics in regulated industries.

  • Strong analytical capabilities combined with excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.

Location and Travel Requirements

The position is located in South San Francisco. Limited travel (1-2 times/year) to monitor IME activities.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $168,400 - 312,700. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
