LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF TOURIST DEVELOPMENT, WELCOME CENTERS DIVISION, MONTGOMERY COUNTY

This is an on-site position at the Clarksville Welcome Center.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and experience equivalent to one year of full-time public contact work; qualifying full-time experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Customer Service experience preferred.

Necessary Special Qualifications: None.

Examination Method: Non-Competitive Selection for Career Service positions.

Overview

Under immediate supervision of a Welcome Center Manager, a Welcome Center Assistant is an entry level position interfacing with the general public. An assistant performs a variety of duties, primarily customer service based and provides informational services to tourists. This position contributes to the custodial and supply maintenance standards in daily operation of the center. This person must be team-oriented, resourceful, value great customer service and possess excellent problem solving, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

1. Greet guest(s) with maps, navigation, brochures, and information on Tennessee tourism points of interest and assets, routes, road conditions, and accommodations. Promote Vacation Guide. Answer the telephone.
2. Maintain an assortment of telephone logs, emergency contact information, etc.
3. Assist guest(s) in securing accommodations through the hotel/motel/campground reservation system; maintains record of calls and reservations made.
4. Keep assigned restrooms serviced (swept, supplied with paper products, soap, etc.), and checks cleanliness and sanitation. May perform other cleaning or custodial work, especially in the main building or around entrances.
5. Maintain an ample supply of material to be distributed and checks the inventory periodically. Know location of first aid kit.
6. Attend other special events to promote tourism by distributing maps, brochures, and information on Tennessee points of interest, routes and accommodations as needed by the Department. Attend Familiarization Tours as needed by the Department.
7. Attend to emergencies when necessary. Perform related work as required.
8. Required to enroll in the Tennessee Welcome Center Assistant Certification Program upon attaining 2 years tenure with the department and attending familiarization tours.
