Job Responsibilities |
The Admissions Counselor or Assistant Director works closely with the Associate Director of Transfer & Graduate Admissions and is responsible for implementing programs and activities focused on the recruitment and enrollment of new transfer and graduate students to the University.
Essential Job Functions:
20% Responsible for management of assigned transfer population, partnership institution(s) and graduate programs, including:
Create travel schedule that positions Fisher to be strategically represented within partnership and community institutions throughout the year.
Coordinate graduate information sessions, visits to college fairs as well as various other programs and presentations targeted to prospective students and community and partnership contacts.
Initiate contact with internal and external community partners in order to build and maintain key relationships. Responsible for assisting with updates for advising guides at established partner community colleges.
20% Review, evaluate, and process admissions and scholarship decisions for transfer and graduate candidates.
Make judgment with regard to admissibility of candidates and determine eligibility for merit-based scholarships offered by the University. The Admissions Counselor or Assistant Director will work with graduate program chairs to process timely admissions decisions. Must be prepared to advocate for students and defend decisions upon final review.
Evaluate credit and prepare individual credit evaluations for prospective students and applicants.
20% Responsible for initial course registration for transfer, graduate and graduate readmission students which involves working closely with program chairs and Associate Director of Transfer and Graduate Admissions to ensure that the students are scheduled in appropriate courses. Review registration with students and answer questions to help make transition to the University a positive experience
15% Conduct individual interviews and group information sessions (both on- and off-campus) with prospective students. Must provide candidates with accurate information regarding enrollment, scholarship opportunities, academic program information, and general University information; as well as assess candidates.
Responsible for follow-up with individual prospective students.
Contribute to the creation of admissions presentation materials, and modify for specific target audiences.
10% Responsible for coordination of outreach activities via phone, electronic communication, and personal contact with students and their families.
Activities designed to cultivate candidate interest and increase enrollment yield (increase prospect-to-applicant and accepted applicant-to-matriculated student conversion ratio.) Includes participation in yield events and follow-up/calling with prospective students and families.
10% Work closely with student service offices as well as faculty on campus to ensure that the needs of transfer and graduate students are met.
5% Have a working knowledge of market-sensitive information with regard to academic and enrollment service offerings, specifically offerings at institutions within the strategic group that the University competes.
(As needed) Perform other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience |
A bachelor's degree and a valid driver's license are required. 1 - 2 years of previous admissions experience preferred; or other professional experience. |
Competencies / Skills |
The Admissions Counselor or Assistant Director should possess excellent oral and written communication skills, a commitment to quality teamwork, a high level of initiative and motivation, a willingness to work long hours and contribute fully to a total recruitment program.
The Admissions Counselor or Assistant Director should exhibit strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks. In addition, must be able to work independently and exhibit a pleasant and outgoing disposition.
This position requires a prior knowledge of basic office technologies, including a proficiency in Microsoft Office. |
Supervision of Employees |
This position may oversee student workers within the Office of Admissions on various projects. |
Work Environment |
Pleasant office environment in the Skalny Welcome Center.Some weekend and evening work required. Some remote work possible. |
