$28.08 - 34.47 / hour, depending on experience and qualifications
Plus $2.00 / hr shift premium for 3rd shift hours

Job Summary

McKee Foods is seeking a skilled Refrigeration Mechanic to join our Plant Engineering team. This role is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing refrigeration, HVAC, and compressed air systems (excluding product-conveying compressed air). The Refrigeration Mechanic will ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of these systems across all Collegedale facilities while supporting continuous improvement and training initiatives.

  • Maintain, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on all refrigeration and HVAC systems, including refrigerant-containing equipment, air compressors, and ventilation systems.
  • Diagnose issues and adjust automated HVAC building control systems.
  • Develop and update preventive maintenance plans; manage spare parts inventory for assigned equipment.
  • Respond promptly to service requests, equipment concerns, and complaints.
  • Support equipment upgrades by assisting with selection, research, and installation.
  • Train new team members and provide technical support to resolve recurring issues.
  • Maintain accurate and timely reports of work performed, including daily email documentation.
  • Participate in ongoing technical training, including electronic instrumentation and system programming.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, vendors, and other departments to ensure efficient operation and reliability.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid or obtainable LTO (Lift Truck Operator) license.
  • Universal CFC certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Completion of Chattanooga State or equivalent refrigeration training program, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical/electronic aptitude.
  • Demonstrated commitment to McKee Foods' values, ethics, and operational goals.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable attendance and a solid safety record.
  • Must supply and maintain personal tools.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external partners (vendors, contractors, and service providers).
  • Must meet Corporate Risk Management requirements for operating company vehicles.
  • Willingness to participate in additional company-sponsored training as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience servicing and maintaining commercial or industrial refrigeration and HVAC systems.
  • Familiarity with advanced HVACR systems, including process chilling equipment, cooling towers, and reciprocating, centrifugal, and screw-type compressors.
  • Experience using MAXIMO CMMS and general computer applications.
  • Familiarity with Wonderware or other automated control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Certificate of completion from a recognized HVAC/refrigeration training program.
