Purpose of Position
Develop detailed design drawings from engineering data with minimum supervision, providing supporting analysis and documentation as required.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Capable of developing original design concepts based upon sound engineering principles without guidance.
- Design tasks include creating 2D layouts or 3D models from sketches and engineering data to determine size, shape, and arrangement of components; also defining part requirements including dimensions, tolerances, finishes, material and clearance.
- Produce installation, assembly, and detail drawings from 2D layouts or 3D models.
- Perform analysis to support design as required to complete assigned tasks or resolve technical issues.
- Provide technical direction and support to manufacturing throughout all phases of training equipment production including fabrication, assembly, test, and installation.
- Capable of handling multi tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrate initiative and independent thought in developing potential solutions to problems using available tools and information.
- Capable of assuming team leader responsibilities; creating and organizing work packages as tasks for other team members.
- Perform within department budget and schedules.
- Approach problem solving from the point of view of what is the best overall solution.
- Travel and Overtime as required.
- Exhibit and practice professional and courteous behavior while interacting with both internal and external customers.

- Accountable for the control and distribution of documents and or equipment subject to export control restrictions and the security of FSI materials, projects and business information regarding the methods and techniques used in the production and usage of FSI products.

Minimum Education
- Level I (Grade 48) Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Level II (Grade 49) Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; and two years related experience preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level usually results from internal progressive experience. - Level III (Grade 50) Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; and four years related experience preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Level IV (Grade 51) Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; and six years related experience preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level usually results from internal progressive experience. However, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements listed.
- Level V (Grade 52) Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; and ten years related experience preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level usually results from internal progressive experience. However, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements listed.
Minimum Experience

- Level V (Grade 52) Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; and ten years related experience preferably in simulation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise for this level usually results from internal progressive experience. However, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements listed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- 2D drafting package and 3D modeling package, preferably AutoCad and SolidWorks. Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project. Stress or Vibrational analysis would be an advantage.
- Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and fax machines.
- Fluency in English, through both verbal and written communications; Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
- Able to work with mathematical concepts used in solving static, dynamic, and stress analysis. Able to apply advanced mathematical concepts using, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus and their applications. Knowledge of the principles of solving complex problems using computational methods.
- Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Valid Drivers License, where applicable.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
