Position Summary
As the Senior Project Accountant, you will ensure financial control and accuracy across contracted projects, with a core emphasis on percentage-of-completion (PoC) accounting and WorkinProgress (WIP) reporting. You'll manage job costing, AR/AP, and general ledger operations-including monthend close procedures-while collaborating closely with Project Management, Supply Chain, and Corporate Accounting teams to uphold disciplined financial execution, while delivering strategic insights through forecasting, variance analysis, and scenario modeling.Additionally, FAR and DFARS experience is a plus, and familiarity with the IFS ERP system is beneficial to streamline processes.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage project budgets and cost tracking within the ERP system, ensuring financial alignment and control.
  • Manage PoC accounting and perform robust WIP review and analysis to support revenue recognition and project tracking.
  • Oversee subcontractor payment processes and manage lien release documentation.
  • Handle accounts receivable-billing, age analysis, and client collection actions.
  • Produce project financial reports: cost-to-complete, margin variance, budget variances, and trend analysis.
  • Monitor job cost allocation and ensure proper phase code usage across project stages.
  • Support month-end close process: journal entries, account reconciliations (WIP, AR, AP), accruals, and balance sheet reviews.
  • Provide general ledger and job cost support through accruals, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Assist in project closeouts by validating costs, creating documentation, and verifying final accounting accuracy.
  • Collaborate across departments-Project Management, Supply Chain, Corporate Accounting-to resolve financial variances and enhance project processes.
  • Maintain confidentiality and secure handling of all financial and contractual data.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support financial operations and project integrity.
Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Experience: 5-10 years in construction or project accounting, with proven capability in PoC accounting and WIP reporting.
  • Demonstrated support of month-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliation tasks.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; familiarity with the IFS ERP system is beneficial.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities; able to navigate complexities in deadline-driven situations.
  • Experience with government contracting frameworks such as FAR and DFARS is a plus.

  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking; occasional stooping or kneeling.
  • Clear verbal communication and dexterity for standard office equipment.
  • Close visual acuity for detail-oriented computer tasks.
  • Based in the Denver Metro Area; Hybrid
  • Adherence to company safety, policy, and attendance protocols; empowered to halt operations if unsafe and notify supervisors.
  • Consistent attendance during core business hours is essential.
