About the Position

The Shop Foreman oversees and coordinates a skilled team dedicated to the fabrication, maintenance, and repair of small equipment. This position requires hands-on involvement in keeping the district's fleet vehicles in top condition while managing the tools, materials, and supplies that support the success of the Flood Control District's Operations and Maintenance Division.

We Require

  • Three years of experience in skilled construction or maintenance

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain the following certifications within six months of hire: OSHA 30-Hour Certification, Overhead Crane Operator Certification, Forklift Operator Certification, and Welding Certification - Basic CWI

We Also Value

  • Prior lead and/or supervisor experience

  • Experience with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding machines, fabrication tools, and mechanical equipment

  • Skilled in the use of cutting torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and pipe benders

  • Experience with operating forklifts, hoists, hand tools, and heavy-duty equipment

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office

Job Contributions

  • Provide day-to-day supervision of a small team, including assigning work, training, scheduling, approving time off, completing performance evaluations, and administering disciplinary action when necessary. Manage shop safety and train staff on proper use of equipment to ensure a safe work environment

  • Plan, prioritize, and assign work to meet project needs and schedules; assure completion of work orders to meet Division standards, and ensure that all safety rules and regulations are observed on the job site

  • Monitor and enforce adherence to Division policies, procedures, and standards; assure all safety rules and regulations are observed on the job site

  • Responsible for overseeing mechanic who performs scheduled maintenance and repair of small equipment with gasoline engines, such as generators, water pumps, brush mowers, chemical sprayers, chainsaws, and tampers

  • Coordinate with the Equipment Services Department for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of District vehicles

  • Monitor current inventory and coordinate the purchase of parts and supplies as required to ensure sufficient stock levels

  • Prepare daily activity, material, and equipment usage reports

  • Read and interpret blueprints, detailed drawings, schematics, and maps. This also includes developing shop drawings of fabricated items

  • This position periodically goes into the field to perform tasks supporting the district

Working Conditions

  • This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked

  • Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

  • Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel

  • The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation

Machines, tools, equipment, software, and hardware

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF, Workday, and materials/inventory tracking software

Protective equipment provided and required

  • Welding helmets, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots

  • Hearing protection, flame-resistant clothing, and respirators (as needed)

  • Hard hats and other PPE per job site requirements
