We are hiring for a Manager of Planning and Scheduling, Asset Maintenance in our Los Angeles, CA Terminal. Could this person be you?

The Manager of Planning and Scheduling, Asset Maintenance is responsible for the management of all aspects of the maintenance task planning and scheduling of terminal assets, including Quay Cranes, RTGs, Spreaders, Straddle Carriers, and rolling stock equipment. This position is also responsible to assist with cost effective maintenance and proper communication with AM contractors and APMT's Operations team.

As a Manager of Planning and Scheduling, Asset Maintenance you will:

  • Manage AM contractors and union labor in all areas of maintenance operations and equipment
  • Manage AM contractors and labor to ensure that all critical preventative and corrective maintenance is being planned and completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Supervise and direct labor in the maintaining of a safe and clean working environment through the adherence to OSHA, hazardous, safety procedures and perform frequent inspections of all equipment.
  • Schedule, assign, and approve all work hours, including overtime for mechanics
  • Create, maintain, and manage schedules for preventative maintenance to maximize the asset life and longevity of invested capital.
  • Analyze current procedures and activities to identify and present opportunities for improvement of the utilization of assets.
  • Assist in terminal improvement projects that involve process changes, dynamic brainstorming, planning execution, and information gathering.
  • Support the disciplinary process when needed, including contributing to investigations into personnel who are not carrying out assigned work properly or safely and recommending training or disciplinary action, as necessary.
  • Maintain a working and professional relationship with ILWU labor (including OCU), and be knowledgeable in labor contracts and grievance procedures. Resolve on the job labor issues with the ILWU locals and represent the interests of the Company.
  • Support and help drive the efficient use of CMMS for business management objectives, Quality Management System (QMS) and key performance indicators (KPI)
  • Use Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for parts and material associated with maintaining terminal equipment.
  • Control work orders and ensure that APMT is maintaining preventative and corrective maintenance that is critical to the equipment.
  • Control and reduce maintenance and materials costs through management of labor, labor contractor and vendors.
  • Interface with equipment suppliers to develop and to review equipment specifications.

What Does APMT Terminals look for in a Qualified candidate?

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree from accredited university in related field or equivalent professional experience is required.
    • Five (5) years terminal operations, Data analysis, Asset management.
  • Leadership:
    • Strong managerial, supervisory, team building, motivating and decision-making skills in order to direct the union labor workforce and vendors on a daily basis to achieve operational goals.
    • Ability to effectively manage conflicting goals, resource conflicts, and make correct real-time decisions.
    • Thinks strategically and has long term vision to support the business direction.

    • Ability to set operational plans with short-term impact by maintaining standards that lead to high performance and execution.

    • Able to manage peers, contractors, and union labor using excellent communication and follow-up skills.
  • Functional Excellence:
    • Broad knowledge in Asset management discipline.
    • Knowledge of Union labor Collective Bargaining Agreements and Safety contract.
    • Prior experience using CMMS or other computer-based maintenance system.
    • Knowledge or prior experience with Lean methodology, RCFA, KAIZEN, Problem solving and data analysis.

  • General office setting with the need to be outdoors depending on tasks for responsibilities,
  • Typically the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work, usually at a computer terminal - with short breaks or lunch period.
  • However, there may be some bending/stooping, reaching above shoulder level, walking; standing; carrying of light items such as papers, books or packages of up to 25 pounds.
  • Should be able to hear & speak clearly using phone / headset to communicate with customers; be able to navigate, view &enter information on the computer.

May need to travel across the US & Canada and occasionally overseas.

Must be able to work variable shifts including evenings & weekends.

Job Type: Full Time

Salary: $120,000.00 to $140,000.00

Benefits: Full time employees are eligible for Health Insurance, Paid Time Off, and 401k Match

The above stated pay range is the anticipated starting salary range for this position. The Company may adjust this range in light of prevailing market conditions and other factors such as location. The Company will work directly with the selected candidate(s) on the final starting salary in accordance with all applicable laws.
