Internship Coordinator


JOB PURPOSE: The Internship Coordinator is responsible for developing, managing, and overseeing the internship program. They act as a liaison between students (or candidates), employers, and academic departments, ensuring that internship experiences are educational, meaningful, and aligned with career goals. The Coordinator also fosters partnerships with external organizations and supports participants through advising, workshops, and placement assistance.

JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Develop and manage internship programs that align with academic and professional standards.
  • Partner with local, national, and international organizations to create a pipeline of internship opportunities.
  • Provides oversight of Internship Assistant and student interns.
  • Support students/candidates by advising them on internship opportunities, application processes, and career development.
  • Organize and lead informational sessions, resume workshops, and interview preparation activities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administration to integrate internship experiences into academic curricula (if applicable).
  • Maintain and update internship databases, postings, and tracking systems.
  • Evaluate and assess internship placements through feedback from interns and employer supervisors.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant labor laws, academic policies, and best practices.
  • Monitor student progress, troubleshoot challenges, and mediate conflicts as needed.
  • Promote internship opportunities through marketing campaigns, career fairs, and social media.
  • Prepare reports on internship outcomes, participation rates, and employer feedback.



QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Business, Human Resources, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 2-4 years of experience in career services, student services, recruiting, or related fields.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups (students, faculty, employers).
  • Familiarity with employment laws and internship guidelines (e.g., U.S. Department of Labor guidelines for unpaid internships, if relevant).
  • Proficiency in MS Office, CRM systems, and career services platforms (e.g., Handshake, Symplicity).
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, problem-solve, and innovate programming.
  • Experience working in higher education or with youth-focused programs.
  • Knowledge of workforce trends and employer needs in specific industries.
