POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is a leader in the maintenance department and supervises the maintenance staff. They will work closely with the management team and other departments including production, mobile maintenance, and the quarry. This position will also have planning tasks and responsibilities for the maintenance department at Amargosa.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Safety & Environmental Leadership:
- Drive and lead a positive safety culture. Ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards and procedures.
- Demonstrate environmental and safety regulatory leadership.
Planning Scheduling of daily maintenance work to meet short term objectives with optimum efficiency:
- Coordinates with Maintenance Manager to assess priorities and urgency of maintenance orders. Assist in the development of the daily/weekly maintenance schedules and procurement of necessary goods and services.
- Establish processes for SAP including the training of team members. o Ensure work is completed to the project standards and guidelines. o Follow spares management best practices.
- Maintain department budget targets.
- Responsible for daily meetings with production for planning and scheduling of maintenance opportunities.
- Foster continuous improvement on equipment with maintenance team.
- Develop and implement a defined Preventative Maintenance program.
- Establish metrics to measure equipment uptime with the ability to provide sustainable solutions.
Leadership of mechanics and maintenance staff:
- Be a positive leader that encourages cross-functional communication.
- Track Key Performance indicators to measure progress of goals.
- Provide feedback to direct reports on daily projects.
- Able to lead team to accomplish results while prioritizing safety.
- Provide proper motivation for employees through coaching, delegation, and follow up on suggestions and ideas.
Manage Preventative Maintenance Program at the plant level:
- Plan, schedule and coordinate corrective and preventive maintenance activities. Work with plant management to continuously upgrade PMs, tasks, and equipment tables.
- Assist with purchasing function of parts needed to perform repairs and maintenance. This includes requisitioning of parts, receiving of parts, and issuing of parts from the warehouse to ensure correct inventory counts.
- Ensure CMMS software data files are complete and current.
Identify, analyze and review maintenance problems with management:
- Submit and review backlog list with priorities to all department heads.
- Coordinate availability of manpower, parts, materials, equipment.
Reporting:
- Maintain records, charts, and indexes. Including but not limited to: MSHA records, Environmental records, and ISO records.
- Post daily, weekly and monthly Key Performance Indicators and trends.
- Report on Performance versus goals.
- Close out work orders daily and input actual hours.
Safe Quality Food (SQF):
- Ensure a SQF workplace and in regulatory compliance with Federal FDA - Food Modernization Safety Act (CFR Code of Federal Regulations Title 21, , Part 507).
- Support Environmental Health and Safety, as well as SQF initiatives and awareness programs.
- Be a leader and promoter of employee safety and SQF culture.
- Ensure employees have a clear understanding of expected safety and SQF performance and the required training.
- Ensure proper training programs are implemented for new employees and continued for existing employees.
- Actively participate in audits for regulatory, safety, SQF and environmental compliance at the site.
Other duties as assigned:
ATTRIBUTES:
- Strong leadership or supervisor experience is desired.
- Must be capable of working any shift, on-call, overtime, or seven days a week, rotating shifts, if required.
- Must be able to assist production in improving a system of production control, standard operating procedure, safety, quality control, and performance management.
- Ability to plan and direct the work of hourly personnel and to train and develop an effective workforce.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meet all required deadlines.
- Good understanding of environmental, safety and the desire to following all established procedures are required.
- Strong knowledge of mobile equipment and diesel engine maintenance and repair.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good understanding of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve mobile equipment powertrain.
- Excellent organizational and written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Previous SAP knowledge is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust.
- Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
- Will be working in both an office environment and in a mining environment.
- The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
- The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to travel up to 10% as needed or directed by leadership.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- The minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a maintenance leadership and/or maintenance planning role in a fast-paced manufacturing, construction, and/or mining/mineral processing environment is required.
PREFFERED EDUCATION:
- AA or BS Technical degree in mechanical, electrical and/or related field is preferred with strong diesel engine, powertrain, electronics of heavy mobile equipment background and/or equivalent work experience in the field.
- BS Degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineer, business or related field.
