Position Description
Will provide cloud programming and software engineering in support of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS). Duties include:
- Responsible for the final design of the cloud architecture deployed for NWS operations including the performance of the architecture. Leads the implementation of this architecture including IaC solution/toolset, data storage solution, configuration management, compliance, and security automation among other aspects of the solution.
- Design and build CI/CD pipeline configurations to orchestrate provisioning and deployment of both large- and small-scale systems
- Design and implement fully automated enterprise pipelines using a suite of DevOps tools: Experience working with AWS DevOps Tools and Gitlab
- Collaborate with team to develop, stand-up, and support a cloud platform using a variety of programming languages and cloud-native technologies.
- Develop and implement systems using Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, CDK, SDK, Terraform, etc.)
- Collaborate with the team to implement a robust and highly available Cloud AWIPS to support AWIPS operations
- Automate cloud deployments, as well as build CI/CD pipeline to support cloud-based workloads
Required Skills
- 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Deep knowledge and expertise with Cloud tools and technologies such as cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and container orchestration.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, executing, and supporting cloud solutions.
- Prior experience leading platform migrations or greenfield builds.
- Strong knowledge of cloud computing technologies and current computing trends.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex cloud reports to management and development partners.
- Must be a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident and able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to access applicable government facilities/systems.
Desired
- Understanding of NOAA/NWS operations and AWIPS system
- Experience with geospatial databases and data structures and formats used in earth science applications.
- Experience working in physical science field
- Professional-level cloud certification
Education
BS in Computer Science, related discipline, or equivalent. MS preferred.
Location
This position supports work at NOAA's Silver Spring and College Park, MD facilities and may be performed remotely with 0-25% travel.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $48,000 - 269,000/year. This range is a good faith estimate based on similar roles across the organization. ERT uses several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the position's scope and expected duties, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
