Job Description: The Assistant Director, of Safety and Security Services manages the day-to-day ACPS and contracted security workforce, physical security systems and the emergency management software platform to ensure the personal and physical security of all students, staff, and visitors on ACPS buildings and grounds. The Assistant Director implements programs and protocols aimed at preserving a safe and secure teaching and learning environment. The Assistant Director routinely collaborates with school leaders, city first-responders, community members, parents and central office staff. The Assistant Director supervises full-time, part-time and contract security personnel. Also working with assigned School Resource Officers (SRO). The Assistant Director ensures the functionality, regular maintenance and repair of security systems (access control, cameras, radios, etc.)
This job reports to the Director of Safety and Security Services. Qualifications:
- Education
- Bachelor's degree required; preferred in Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in security and emergency operations, with supervisory experience.
- Experience in school security or emergency operations planning is preferred.
- Proficient in security technology and monitoring systems, including CCTV, intrusion detection, and access control systems.
- Certifications:
- Must possess or complete School Safety Officer (SSO) certification within 60 days of hire.
- Related certifications (e.g., CPP, CPTED, CBCP, AEM) preferred.
- Licenses:
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Essential Functions:
- Security and Safety Management:
- Supervise and manage full-time, part-time, and contract security staff.
- Ensure the functionality and maintenance of security systems (access control, cameras, radios).
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety procedures, fire evacuation plans, and safety drills.
- Collaborate with school leaders, law enforcement, and community members to enhance security protocols.
- Conduct regular checks of schools and offices to maintain secure environments.
- Emergency Management and Training:
- Lead emergency preparedness education and training programs for staff.
- Develop and execute ICS-based drills and tabletop exercises for crisis management.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state emergency management standards, including NIMS and ICS.
- Coordinate with local first responders for training and joint assessments of emergency plans.
- Administrative and Reporting:
- Serve as a liaison between ACPS and local law enforcement regarding school security officers.
- Compile and analyze security data to produce reports for ACPS leadership.
- Maintain compliance with Safe Schools Act and other safety-related regulations.
- Assist in security investigations and provide documentation for law enforcement.
- Technology Management:
- Oversee the management and upgrading of security software, CCTV systems, and 2-way radios.
- Ensure the seamless operation of access control systems and electronic ID badge management.
- Coordinate with local first responders to ensure interoperability of digital emergency radio networks.
- Collaboration and Leadership:
- Represent ACPS in local and regional safety and security meetings.
- Provide leadership in crisis response under the ICS structure.
- Support the Director of Safety and Security Services in operational matters and act as lead in their absence.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with school personnel to foster a safety culture.

Additional Requirements:
- Available 24/7 for emergency situations.
- Ability to travel to and from district sites as needed.

- Salary for this position is determined by The ACPS Support Administrator Salary Scale
