A part-time Financial Aid Officer provides essential support and guidance to students and families navigating the financial aid process, ensuring they have the resources needed to pursue their educational goals. They work within federal, state, and institutional guidelines to determine aid eligibility, review packaging reports as needed, and resolve issues related to student finances. This position will work primarily at the Pocono Campus located in Tannersville, PA.

Key responsibilities:

  • Financial Aid Advising:Providing in-depth counseling and advising to students and parents on financial aid eligibility, application procedures and policies, and the review of student aid progress.
  • Application & Eligibility:Assisting students in completing FAFSA and other financial aid forms, evaluating and determining eligibility for various financial aid programs.
  • Compliance & Regulations:Ensuring adherence to all federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations and policies, which may include conducting verification reviews and making professional judgments when necessary.
  • Student Support & Communication:Serving as a primary contact for students regarding financial aid inquiries and concerns, communicating effectively via various channels (phone, email, in-person, MS teams), and providing support to students facing financial challenges.
  • Collaboration:Collaborating with other departments, such as admissions and the Bursar's Office, Records, Advising, etc. to ensure a seamless experience for students and contribute to retention efforts.
  • Assist students with filling out their admissions applications.
  • Workshops & Presentations:Participating in and/or leading presentations or workshops to educate students and families about financial aid options and the application process.
  • Assist the financial aid team with the administration of private loans and federal work-study. This includes certification of Parent PLUS and private education loans, resolving issues between the college's system and the dept. of education.
  • Participation in state, regional and national professional development activities to ensure a complete understanding of federal and state regulations and remain current on changes to the federal and state aid programs.
  • Responsible for the supervision of student employees in the financial aid office.
  • Other duties as assigned by the financial aid director or the associate directors
  • Work with the financial aid team at the Bethlehem Campus via MS Teams or scheduled meetings.
  • Attend all weekly financial aid and one-on-one meetings.

Qualifications

  • Education:Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience:Previous experience working in a higher education setting, particularly as a financial aid counselor, is strongly preferred. Typically, 1-2 years of experience is desired. Public speaking and conducting workshops.
  • Bilingual Spanish, preferred.
  • A strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Flexibility and willingness to occasionally work evenings or weekends as needed, depending on the institution's requirements. May involve extended hours during peak periods.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations and policies.
  • Proficiency in technology and the systems used to determine student's eligibility. (These may include: Workday, NSLDS, COD, CPS, MS Office, Teams, Excel)
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with FERPA policies.
