Position Description:

The laboratory of Dr. Alex Kleinpeter in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Iowa is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our group investigating the molecular mechanisms of HIV-1 replication and resistance to antiretroviral drugs.

This NIH-funded position will support projects focused on understanding the molecular underpinnings HIV-1 particle assembly and maturation and investigating the interplay between HIV-1 resistance to the recently approved capsid inhibitor Lenacapavir (Sunlenca/Yeztugo), viral fitness, and capsid/host factor interactions.

Applicants with strong backgrounds in molecular biology, virology, biochemistry, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Strong experience with molecular biology (e.g. cloning, mutagenesis, western blot etc.) and mammalian tissue culture is a requirement for this position. Prior experience with protein purification, biochemistry, and/or structural biology techniques are especially valued, but not required.

Compensation will be determined based on experience and current NIH guidelines. The ideal start-date for this position is November 1, 2025, but can be negotiated.

Education Requirement:


  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D/Ph.D. degree and a strong background in molecular biology and microbiology.


Required Qualifications:
