Undergraduate Student Research Assistant Department of Ophthalmology Full/Part Time Status: Part Time Approximate Hours per Week: 10-15 hours per week. Position Description: The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science is seeking an undergraduate Student Research Assistant interested in assisting in research to determine the immunological and the molecular events that lead to vision loss in glaucoma. Supervision Received: General supervision will be provided by Dr. Markus Kuehn. Immediate supervision will be provided by post-doctoral research scholar, Dr. Merri-Grace Jones. Duties of the Student Research Assistant position to include: * -Assist with husbandry and treatment of mice * -Perform DNA extraction and PCR for genotyping of mice (training provided) * -Assist with maintenance of laboratory reagents, supplies, and instruments * -Perform ophthalmological research techniques such as rebound tonometry to measure intraocular pressure in mice (training provided) Required Qualifications: -High school diploma or GED equivalent -Sophomore or higher undergraduate with a major in a STEM field -Experience with hands-on laboratory courses (biology, microbiology, chemistry etc) -Proficient with computer software including Microsoft Office, and Excel -Enthusiasm for ophthalmology research -Attention to detail and a good work ethic Desired Qualifications: * -Previous research experience Pay Rate: $14/hr Application Process: Please send resume/CV and fall semester schedule to Dr. Merri-Grace Jones at merri-grace-jones@uiowa.edu. |
