Summary of Job Duties:The Academic Advisor works under the direction of the Director of Advising and Concurrent Enrollment and performs an integral role in the advising, registration, and retention of UACCM students.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Provides quality academic advising that guides students toward their educational goals.

Assists students in identifying educational and career goals, consistent with abilities, interests, and educational backgrounds.

Reviews test placement scores, high school and transfer credits, and degree plan requirements to register students in the appropriate courses.

Completes prior learning and articulated credit requests for eligible, incoming students.

Evaluates students for degree completion and completes necessary documentation for the Registrar' Office.

Remains current on academic degree requirements and processes/policies that pertain to advising and registration on campus.

Develops and maintains effective communication with students, faculty, staff, academic departments, and student support services.

Actively participates in student retention through early alert initiatives and monitoring the academic progress and performance of students.

Works cooperatively with department staff to serve and support concurrently enrolled students.

Serves as a point of contact for students with questions about transferring to another college or university; stays up to date on scholarship and transfer information; participates in training/workshops for four-year institutions

Assists with the Spring Transfer Fair, the scheduling of transfer events on campus, and student notifications/advertisements for events

Assists faculty with advising questions, training, and course overrides

Maintains current knowledge and best practices in the field of advising and retention by attending local, state, regional, or national conferences and meetings.

Actively serves and participates on campus committees, as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in college student personnel, counseling, education, or a related field

Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of the minimum qualifications upon approval of the Chancellor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in college student personnel, counseling, education, or a related field

  • 1 year of higher education experience

  • Knowledge of office management principles, methods, and procedures.

  • Able to perform basic research, analyze information and prepare reports in a logical and informative manner.

  • Able to problem solve, organize and prioritize work, multi-task, and be flexible and accepting of change.

  • Able to work independently and cooperatively with a team to achieve the mission/goal.

  • Able to work effectively and cooperatively with people of various cultural backgrounds.

Salary Information:

$36,000 - $41,000; commensurate with education and experience
