Summary of Job Duties:The Post-Doctoral Fellow follows the achievement of a Ph.D and is a period where the fellow works under a mentor at a more experienced, advanced level. This is a time where the fellow is expected to gain critical knowledge needed for the early stages of their research career and to successfully run her/his own research laboratory. Responsibilities will include managing research associates, residents, and students, along with the organization of the laboratory. Additionally, the fellow will focus on research studies relevant to the mentor's laboratory and provide critical data that results in publications and grant awards that benefit the department and the university. The research will focus on projects studying sepsis, inflammation, and organ injury in large animal models. Following demonstration of competence, the fellow will have autonomy in directing experiments and will have the opportunity to complete independent research projects. Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. required.

  • Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Research Training and Modules.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to include conducting literature reviews, data extraction, and contributing to research publications; demonstrable initiative, integrity, and flexibility.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively in groups.
    Strong interpersonal & organizational skills.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.

  • Familiarity with statistical analysis is useful.

  • Applicant must have demonstrated the ability to successfully carry out experiments in a laboratory setting.

  • Additionally, the applicant must record data and report clearly on the study's findings.

  • Able and willing to move large animals to and from the operating room table

Responsibilities:

  • Design, perform, and analyze data experiments pertaining to an agreed-upon research study.
  • Writing research papers for publication and grant applications for funding.

  • Mentoring graduate students or technicians, overseeing lab organization

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This position is a Designated Research Position and is regulated by the Arkansas Research Education Protection Act of 2025.
