JOB TITLE: PRINCIPAL ENGINEER - GLOVEBOX OPERATIONS DUTIES Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise. Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering or scientific principles . Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution. Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology. Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management. Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed. Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscripts form to customers colleagues and management. Occasionally prepare reports for external publication. Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies. Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles. Work Hours: A 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8hour/day; five days per week), 4/10's (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80's (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Education: Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years' experience. OR A MS with 8+ years' experience. OR A BS with 10+ years' experience or more. Experience/Skills: Experience with computers and software to include: Word, Excel, Power Point, and other software and tools as needed. Experience with the design, procurement, fabrication and installation of Gloveboxes within the DOE Complex. Process engineering management and/or operations management experience with nuclear materials nvolving glovebox operations. Requires a thorough understanding of plutonium chemistry and the radiological, nuclear safety and industrial safety issues of plutonium operations. Demonstrated ability to lead multi-discipline teams to develop effective solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial processing problems. Ability to analyze complex operations, identify solutions and implement/track projects to successful closure including good organizational skills. Proficiency, experience, and knowledge with procurement acquisition processes and project management. Ability to effectively work in partnership with peers, Design Authority Engineers, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Glovebox Manufacturers, and Test organizations. OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Area Security Access: Clearance "Q" required. Subcontractor must have an active e FOCI registration and approved Facility Level Clearance with DOE / NNSA. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are |
