This is the second craft level of the Substation Technician hierarchy. A Substation Technician I will assist a higher level technician and sometime safely lead a lower level technician in activities associated with substation construction and maintenance activities. Incumbents are expected to develop complex technical and leadership skills and the ability to work independently and lead small activities with low to moderate levels of complexity.

Required/Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and minimum 1 year of Transmission or Distribution substation maintenance or construction experience or equivalent job-related and educational experience

  • Must have a valid State Driver's License and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A Driver's License

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced understanding of job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance
  • Has positive working relationships and can effectively coordinate work activities
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally
  • Provides lower level of leadership
  • Demonstrate the ability to developing leadership skills

  • Software skills including word process, email, spreadsheets etc.

  • Must have a permanent residence approximately forty-five minutes from their base location

Working Conditions
  • Demonstrated availability for after- hour's work and call out rotation

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.

  • Ability to work in a diverse environment with individuals from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds

  • Must be capable of working on elevated work surfaces

  • This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading

  • This position is located in North and South Carolina

Specific Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to pass panel review by meeting or exceeding requirements for step progression
  • Ability to pass any required back ground check for NERC/CIP/Nuclear compliance
  • Must pass appropriate level of Duke aptitude test
