Job Summary

The Associate Director - Infrastructure Controls is responsible for leading and managing large-scale project controls functions and utility controls across campus facilities. This role ensures infrastructure systems operate efficiently, reliably, and sustainably, with a strong emphasis on energy conservation, occupant comfort, and safety. The Associate Director leads a team of engineers and technicians, serving as the primary liaison between Infrastructure and key departments, including but not limited to Planning, Design & Construction, Engineering, Information Technology, Environmental Health & Safety, and the Office of Sustainability. This position plays a vital role in enhancing the university's infrastructure performance and advancing its sustainability goals. Assist in setting employee performance goals, contribute to performance evaluations, provide developmental feedback, and support compensation recommendations in alignment with departmental objectives.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Provide strategic leadership in the development and execution of comprehensive project control systems, overseeing cost, schedule, risk, and performance management to ensure alignment with institutional goals and regulatory standards. Establish and uphold robust project governance frameworks, ensuring adherence to internal controls, policies, and industry standards.

Job Duty 2 -
Lead and oversee change control processes, evaluating impacts on cost, schedule, and resources. Leverage KPIs and dashboard tools to monitor project performance and deliver timely, data-driven reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Job Duty 3 -
Lead cross-functional project control teams within a matrixed environment, serving as the primary liaison between project teams and executive leadership to ensure alignment and successful execution of strategic initiatives.

Job Duty 4 -
Oversee project budgeting and forecasting activities, ensuring financial accuracy and accountability. Support procurement and contract management processes to align resources with project objectives.

Job Duty 5 -
Contribute to long-term infrastructure planning and digital transformation initiatives. Advance Project Management Office (PMO) capabilities by developing and implementing best practices, tools, and methodologies.

Job Duty 6 -
Oversee the planning and execution of retro-commissioning and re-commissioning efforts across campus facilities. Identify and resolve control system deficiencies, validate performance through testing and data analysis, and direct in-house and outsourced test and balance services.

Job Duty 7 -
Direct the inspection, maintenance, and optimization of building and utility control systems. Implement a fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) program to proactively inform maintenance strategies. Develop preventive maintenance schedules and ensure rapid resolution of control-related issues.

Job Duty 8 -
Collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to ensure ventilation systems meet safety standards. Partner with Facilities IT Services to maintain network security, manage software and server updates, and support IP address configurations for control systems.

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience
Six or more years of relevant experience, including three or more years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, or PERMITS:
o Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
o Leadership in Energy
o Environmental Design (LEED)
o Engineer in Training (EIT)
o PE
o CxA

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in a related field, or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE
o Knowledge of sustainability practices and carbon neutrality goals
o Strong understanding of district energy and building systems, including HVAC, lighting, and energy
management

SKILLS
o Leadership and communication skills
o Proficiency in control system programming and troubleshooting
