The Department of Sociology at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, seeks applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level specializing in Computational Sociology. The search is part of a cluster of hires in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence initiated across schools at Rutgers-New Brunswick, begun in 2023 and including a component on Computational Social Science (

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing research and teaching undergraduate and graduate classes in Sociology, but also would be invited to join new cross-school collaborative initiatives such as the recently formed Computational Social Science lab (
https://csslab.rutgers.edu) and the Rutgers AI and Data Science (
RAD) Collaboratory (
https://radcollaboratory.rutgers.edu). We seek a scholar whose research involves the application of computational methods, including but not limited to machine learning, generative artificial intelligence, agent-based modeling, natural language processing, and digital experiments. We are particularly interested in candidates who a) use computational tools in their research and b) study the substantive social impacts of technology and artificial intelligence in areas that complement department strengths such as political participation, health, the sociology of work, social control, social movements, or the environment. Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field by start of appointment (on September 1, 2026). We will begin reviewing applications on October 15, 2025.
