The Department of Sociology at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, seeks applications for an open-rank tenure-track position (possible ranks include Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor)
specializing in the sociological study of crime, law, formal social control, and/or deviance. Advanced assistants and other mid-career scholars are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing research and teaching graduate and undergraduate classes in Sociology, and teaching in the undergraduate Program in Criminal Justice (
https://crimjust.rutgers.edu/) housed within the Rutgers-New Brunswick Sociology department. They will also be expected to take on a leadership role with respect to the Criminal Justice program within a few years of arrival. Specific areas of expertise may include: carceral studies; socio-legal studies; surveillance and new technologies, either as mechanisms of social control or as instruments of criminal behavior; international/global dimensions of crime; white-collar crime; and gender, family, and immigration issues as they relate to or are affected by the criminal justice system. Candidates using qualitative or mixed methods are especially encouraged to apply, as are those who engage with crime- and justice-related policy-making.
