Job Overview:

The Transplant Financial Coordinator is an essential member of a multidisciplinary team, responsible for delivering accurate and professional financial counseling to patients throughout the transplant process. This position ensures compassionate financial support, facilitates access to transplant and LVAD services, and maintains continuity of care.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma with 4 years of relevant experience, Associate's degree with 2 years of experience, or college degree with 1 year of experience
  • Experience in a hospital, business office, or physician's office setting
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and all levels of the organization

Preferred:

  • Experience in insurance review, verification, and billing processes

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Working Shift: Monday - Friday
  • Day Shift
  • Per-Diem, Based on Business Needs

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with patients and families to conduct financial screenings and interviews for transplantation and advanced therapies
  • Partner with clinical teams to analyze and manage complex data related to contracts and patient benefits for financial clearance
  • Verify insurance coverage for hospital, professional, and pharmacy services in collaboration with patients
  • Maintain and update financial and demographic data in shared databases to streamline team workflows
  • Meet with patients and families during evaluations to provide financial counseling and address their concerns
  • Assist patients in navigating coverage options, including Medicare and Medicaid, and support them in securing alternative resources if needed
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure timely compliance with authorization requirements
  • Monitor eligibility, benefit changes, and financial status throughout the transplant process in collaboration with patients and the clinical team
  • Facilitate pre-certifications and initiate prior authorization requests with patients and payors
  • Coordinate with insurance providers to adhere to contractual guidelines, resolve denials, and collaboratively document outcomes
  • Guide patients through financial approval challenges, offering support and connecting them to their insurance payer's case manager
  • Identify and address insurance coverage gaps through alternative funding or financial assistance programs
  • Share financial data with the Utilization Management Department to support medical review processes
  • Partner with the Office of Managed Care to negotiate agreements with insurance providers for transplant coverage
  • Stay up-to-date and share insights on CMS regulations related to transplant finance and billing practices
