JOB TITLE:

Data Center Specialist, I

JOB PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, perform routine, day-to-day activities to support the operation of the Data Center in accordance with established policies and procedures. Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours response to Data Center issues. Provide customer service to Information Technology staff and contractors, and assist with physical equipment installations, relocations, and removals.

This position has been deemed essential as addressed in the University of Wyoming's Employee Handbook . Employees in essential positions may be required to work during emergency closures and winter closure based on the nature of their job duties and the reasons for the closure. Additionally, this position involves on-call status.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Monitor and log Data Center operations using local and remote systems, direct observation, and user reports.
  • Respond to and resolve basic issues related to Data Center operations, including alarms, user reports, or observed anomalies.
  • Maintain Data Center infrastructure either directly or by coordinating with University maintenance personnel or contractors.
  • Provide customer service and support to IT staff and co-location clients.
  • Contribute to individual or team-based projects related to Data Center operations and maintenance under the direction of the Data Center Manager.
  • Perform or assist with physical tasks such as installing, moving, or removing equipment (servers, networking gear, cabling, HVAC components, etc.).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Associate's degree in a related field or two (2) years of relevant work experience in Information Technology, Electrical, or HVAC.

Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirements:

Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

Must be able to respond and be on site within 30 minutes during on-call period.

Industry certifications in data center operations, cabling, networking, or related fields are desirable and may substitute for up to two (2) years of experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Data Center experience preferred
  • Proficient with computers, networking and Microsoft applications

WORK LOCATION:

On-campus: This position provides vital support to campus customers, and the successful candidate must be available to work on campus.
