Transportation Engineer

Primary Responsibilities

HDR's Transportation Engineer will: serve as a project manager or task leader for municipal or highway projects of various sizes and complexity; prepare, design, or produce elements of contract plans, specifications, and estimates for transportation-related civil engineering projects using state, county, and city or other applicable standards, including Roadway Sections, Intersection Layout, Interchange Layout, Horizontal and Vertical Alignment, Right of Way Plans, Temporary Erosion Control Plans, Site Preparation Plans, Transportation Profiles, Retaining Wall Plans, Drainage Plans and Profiles, Utility Plans, Paving, Pavement Marking Plans, Signing Plans, and Traffic Control Plans; prepare or review scopes, budgets and schedules; write reports and technical memorandums; coordinate with subconsultants to keep projects on schedule and within budget; manage day-to-day communication (verbal and written) with the client; implement project quality plans; and support and advise junior engineers and technical staff as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master's Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 2 years of experience in transportation engineering or a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 5 years of experience in transportation engineering.
  • Required experience must include experience in: Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) projects; street/arterial roadways; urban and rural highway interchanges; intersection design; traffic management; transportation planning; preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout, and CAD base alignment plans; preparation of plan layouts and exhibits; 3D modeling; MicroStation; OpenRoads; Geopak; and CAD design software.
  • Must hold Engineer-in-Training certification or have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination. Professional Engineer licensure is not a prerequisite for the position.
