Certified Sterile Processing Supervisor/Educator

Duties:

  • Maintain necessary department manuals, guidelines, policies, procedures, reference materials and task descriptions to meet or exceed external regulatory requirements and to meet or exceed associate expectations in supporting patient care.
  • Responsible to ensure assigned staff follow prescribed techniques, policies/procedures, and process controls. Optimizes instrument tracking systems for reporting distribution, loss, repairs and replacement. Identifies strategies to standardize products, reduce supplies and cost containment. Maintains working knowledge of all surgical instrumentation and technical competencies. Perform duties as a tech as needed.
  • Responsible for timely preparation and submission of information to formulate annual operating and capital budgets. Understands/supports supply chain contracting and standardization initiatives.
  • Maintain department within fiscal and human resource goals.
  • Works with Surgical Services to interview applicants. Manage performance of staff, include: provide input for staff performance appraisal for professional improvement, coaching, mentoring staff to aide in retention, and serve disciplinary matters as seen within local policy and procedures
  • Collaborates with Infection Prevention, clinical leadership and management to monitor, develop, and implement QA and PI activities, audits related to continuous readiness, quality, service, and workflow. Manages assigned projects skillfully.
  • Plans, develops, and implements educational plan and training curriculums for onboarding and ongoing staff. Tracks training progress for new hire, signs off, and maintains orientation and competency checklists. Conducts annual competency assessment for all staff in sterile processing. Identifies learning needs through observation, occurrences, staff meetings and partner input. Reviews and revises educational programs as needed
  • Support annual, or as required, inventory control procedures and tasks for medical surgical consumable supplies and reusable equipment and instrumentation.
  • Ensure par levels of consumable and implantable surgical devices are adequate to meet physician and patient care demands.
  • Serves as a the subject matter expert related to quality controls, reusable medical equipment cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, transporting, handling and storage practices. Coordinates and manages surgical instrument PM, repair/exchange with staff, vendors, and customers.
  • Ensure that instrumentation and equipment for bedside surgical procedures is available. Daily rounds and monitoring of par levels is performed as needed. Anticipates needs of surgeon and surgical assistants in preparing instruments and SPD-related consumable supplies
  • Resolves issues or offer alternatives when necessary, including in abnormal circumstances.
  • Provides interventions within scope of practice (including, but not limited to, simple dressing changes, vital signs, I&O, foley catheter insertion/discontinuation/care, feedings, treatments, specimen collection, linen changes, activities of daily living, turning, and attending to hygiene needs of patients.)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience: 4-5 years experience minimum in sterile processing with increasing responsibility Prior supervisory experience preferred. Must be proficient in spoken and written English. Computer skills to use MS office and other applications related to Instrument Management.

License or Registration Requirements: CRCST or CSPDT certification is required through IAHCSMM(formally known as HSPA). Additional three certifications listed below, must be acquired within 2 years(CIS, CER, CHL OR CSIS, CFER, CSPM) through HSPA or CBSPD registry boards.
