Position SummaryThe
Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at the University of New
Mexico invites applications for a Postdoctoral fellow position. We are
seeking a research-focused and experienced individual with strong analytical,
organizational, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will
conduct research in Dr. Islam's lab in the department. Dr. Islam's research
is focus on cornea regeneration including cell therapy.

The
successful candidate will conduct research involving animal models, specifically
using the rabbit cornea. Responsibilities also include publishing findings in
leading journals and conferences, leading group projects, and collaborating
with both graduate and undergraduate students on research initiatives.

The candidate should
be available to start immediately.

The ideal candidate should have:
A record of peer-reviewed publications and prior research experience in ophthalmology, including experience in handling rabbits for ocular research (preferably, but not limited to, studies involving the rabbit cornea) and conducting laboratory experiments.
Demonstrated experience in cell biology techniques.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must hold a PhD in Biological, Biomedical Sciences, Ophthalmology, or a closely related field.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced
    working with Rabbit model for ophthalmic research.
  • A
    demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied
    cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve
    local and global communities.

New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment for good
reason. Albuquerque is a culturally rich
and naturally beautiful city, with good weather year-round, perfect for outdoor
enthusiasts. The Sandia Mountain wilderness is 20 minutes from UNM. There is a
lively arts scene, and we are close to the galleries of Santa Fe and Madrid,
NM. There are two national laboratories nearby: Sandia and Los Alamos.
