Full-Time/Regular STGi is currently seeking a Housekeeper to provide services at The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home. The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home is located in Temple, TX. Our staff provides compassionate and specialized care to our nation's veterans. We focus on providing the best experience for residents and their families. JOB SUMMARY: Perform day-to-day activities of housekeeping as directed by the Housekeeping Supervisor to assure the facility is maintained in a clean and comfortable manner. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Clean and disinfect equipment and supplies, monitor environment for potential hazards, clean vacant rooms as assigned, ensure proper disposal of infectious waste(s) into appropriate containers and other duties as assigned in accordance with established infection prevention and control procedures. * Carry cleaning cloths, tissue, paper towels and other cleaning supplies using proper sanitary and safety techniques. Secure chemicals at all times. * Ensure proper disposal of infectious waste(s) into appropriate containers as required by state/federal regulations and the facility infection prevention plan. * Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner; service routinely and when necessary to keep containers from overflowing. * Ensure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored at all times as well as before leaving such areas for breaks, meals and the end of the work day. * Report all accidents/incidents to Housekeeping Supervisor no matter how minor they may be. * Ensure that all required skill development events are attended as directed, complete competencies timely. * Provide orientation, training and/or mentoring as directed for the onboarding of new team members. * Attend and participate in annual facility in-service training programs as scheduled. * Be knowledgeable of resident rights and provide for resident privacy at all times. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: * Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language proficiently. * Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions and accept constructive criticism. * Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with team members, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/team members and the general public. * Must maintain supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of housekeeping areas. * Must perform regular inspections of resident rooms/units for sanitation, order, safety and proper performance of assigned duties. * Must be willing to work harmoniously with other team members as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning. * Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and practices, and be willing to incorporate them into existing housekeeping practices. * Must be able to follow written and oral instructions concerning the mixing of cleaning compounds, liquids, disinfecting solutions, etc. * Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition to nursing staff. * Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace. REQUIRED EDUCATION: * High school diploma or GED. * On-the-job training provided. * Ability to understand basic housekeeping tasks consistent with facility priorities, policies and procedures. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. * Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. * Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. * Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents and team members. * Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination. * Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and, at times, difficult people within the facility. * Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet. * May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations. * Work is typically performed in an environmentally controlled environment. * Work is performed on multi-level facilities.
