Voice/Data Communications Technician

SMS is seeking a Voice/Data Communications Technician to for our Engineering and Installation of Communications-Computer Systems (EICCS) program providing support To the USAF 688th ALIS, out of Lackland AFB.

This work includes travel, which can be as long as 3 months or more, with no travel home during the work effort. (Normal travels is 3-4 weeks long per project). Travel may require work on the weekends.

Position is primarily network infrastructure installation.
• Install the passive infrastructure, to include equipment racks/cabinets, patch panels, switches (no programming), Uninterrupted Power Supply, Power Distribution Unit, grounding/bonding systems, cable trays, ducts, EMT/Flex conduit and pathways, ceiling stringers/j-hooks, other wall mounted raceway and connector boxes and hanging/support systems.
• Install and terminate single and multi-mode fiber optic cable using unicam, anaerobic and fusion spliced connectors.
• Install and terminate CAT5e and Cat6 copper cable.
• Take the users requirement and design/engineer a technical solution and parts list to include equipment, cable types and color, connectors, and faceplates. In the Technical solution, provide a man-hour estimate for the install and manpower requirement to accomplish the work.
• Update drawings and connectivity cut-sheets. Update project status and job log.
• Monitor supply process to ensure parts get ordered, shipped, inventoried and customer gets invoiced.

• Individual should have experience installing the above systems along with experience working with fiber and copper cabling.
• Must be able to work on a ladder, crawl under floors, above ceilings.
• Use of both common hand tools and powered tools.
• Familiar with Fluke test equipment to test cables after installation.
• TS/SCI required.
