Summary Oconee Nuclear Station is seeking an entry-level Electrical I&C Engineer I or Engineer II. The selected candidate will support Duke Energy's Oconee Nuclear Station located in Seneca, South Carolina. An individual with coursework and interest in Instrumentation & Controls Engineering is a plus. Responsibilities
- Serving as the site Subject Matter Expert for assigned systems/components
- Providing direct support to plant operations primarily focused on technical recommendations for improvement/support of the plant electrical and I&C systems.
- Monitoring and trending system & component performance
- Directing troubleshooting activities for emergent plant electrical and I&C issues
- Coordinating cross-functionally with other departments (such as Design, Maintenance & Operations) to ensure concerns, schedules, budgeting, and related issues are properly addressed.
- Ensuring regulatory compliance is maintained per NRC & industry standards.
- Ensuring Fleet Operating Experience and industry learnings are leveraged to improve system performance.
- Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches related to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
- Analyzing system signatures to assess system health
- Additional engineering responsibilities may be assigned based on team needs and individual experience.
Basic/Required Qualifications Nuclear Engineer I
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- A master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- 0-2 years of engineering experience
Nuclear Engineer II
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- A Master 's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
- 2-4 years of engineering experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- (2) years of utility or nuclear engineering experience
- Experience with analog/digital control systems
- Experience with Programming and Programming Languages
- Experience with Cause Analysis and Component Failure Investigations
- Registration as an Engineer-In-Training
- Proficient in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Specific Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
- In lieu of 1 year of nuclear experience, a selected candidate is subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until the selected candidate becomes fully qualified.
- Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access.
- Willingness to work extended hours with changes in work schedule whenever necessary which at times could include call outs to support stations in an emergent condition.
- This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed.
- Occasional work during nights and weekends or extended workdays may be necessary to support nuclear regulatory compliance, unit outages, or emergent equipment issues.
