The ideal candidate must have at least five years of experience in a leadership (supervision/management) role in the railcar repair industry. This role will have direct responsibility for multiple PSC railcar repair workgroups at different sites.

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday and must be available for call outs to respond to incidents, if needed (day or night)

Job Duties & Responsibilities: The overall expectation for this position is to lead our railcar repair group by ensuring safe, efficient and productive operations in accordance with AAR, FRA and company guidelines.

Overall Operating Performance: Operating performance success at PSC is benchmarked using statistics in recordable injuries, environmental incidents, performance to forecasted budget, and warranty claims.



  • Ensures systems and processes are in place to drive safety and environmental performance by each railcar repair workgroup.
  • Clearly communicates goals around operating performance and holds the team accountable to forecasted benchmarks.
  • Works closely with site supervisors and customers to identify opportunities for improvement and implement effective solutions.
  • Has direct participation in safety meetings and overall training initiatives to model appropriate behavior for our site leaders.
  • Performs safety observations in the field and routinely visit work sites to establish high visibility with employees and customer.
  • Ensures that all incidents are investigated and participate directly in significant incidents (i.e. employee injuries, spills, derailments).
  • Ensures that training is being conducted in alignment with PSC and customer's best practices including auditing of records and informal participation in employee qualification process.
  • Ensures positive recognition is occurring for good performance and personally participate in recognition events where possible.
  • Completes any other duties that may be assigned to complete the job.


Leadership Development:



  • Responsible for the professional development of direct and indirect reports to drive PSC's long-term talent book success.
  • Provides one-on-one and group coaching to site leaders and second-tier leaders through regular visits.
  • Performs annual performance evaluation with each site leader and ensures a similar process is conducted between site leader and field employees.
  • Works closely with other operations managers to identify future leaders and creates an individual development plan for these candidates.


Commercial and Business Issues:



  • Understands specific contract details for each customer.
  • Manages damage claims to minimize impact.
  • Identifies high risk activity or situations that leave PSC exposed to undesired liability (injury, contamination, reputation).
  • Develops win/win solutions to opportunities to maximize value to customer and at the same time contribute to PSC's financial success.
  • Recognizes and act appropriately for situations that balance protecting short-term financial impact versus long-term reputational impact.


Customer Relationships:



  • Knows who the key customers' contacts are in an organization from top to bottom.
  • Facilitates the ongoing regular dialogue with key customer personnel including regular face-to-face interaction.
  • Helps facilitate appropriate customer entertainment, particularly with senior management at key accounts.


New Business Development:



  • Is fully aware of and promotes other PSC services at existing accounts.
  • Supports business development efforts by:

    • Identifying new prospects through regular industry contacts.
    • Identifying opportunities to grow existing accounts.
    • Participating in sales calls, introductory meetings and participate in scope / proposal development.
    • Leading startup efforts for new job in area of responsibility.
    • Supporting start-ups with resources and participation in other areas.




Organizational Support:



  • Provides support and input to peers in other PSC lines of business.
  • Shares information / best practices / lessons learned.
  • Seeks input and collaboration on difficult issues and problems.
  • Works closely with the HR and safety groups
  • Recruiting / hiring / discipline issues.
  • Helps conduct safety intensive and other key safety training.
  • Effectively communicates and implements company policy changes.
  • Participates in any appropriate cross functional teams.


Job Qualifications:



  • 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.
  • Stable work history with good references from past employers
  • Pass a drug screen, physical, and background check
  • PSC is a veteran-friendly company. Previous military experience and proven ability to follow procedures is a plus.


Preferred experience:



  • Multi-site leadership in the rail industry
  • Understanding of railcar repair regulatory requirements including AAR and FRA
  • BRC generation and railcar repair billing
  • Welding and NDT (none destructive testing) understanding and experience
  • General lease agreement experience and knowledge for billing appropriately
  • 2+ years of site leadership/supervision/management
  • 2+ years of railcar repair experience

Physical Requirements: You must be able to:



  • Speak, write, read fluent English. Hear and have good vision.
  • Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is required
  • Work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) without restriction and pass any medical examination associated with the use of PPE
