The Opportunity with McKinstry
We are currently seeking a Purchasing Agent to join our dynamic team as a member of our growing procurement division in Seattle. Additional responsibilities include:
Strategic Procurement
- Lead procurement of materials, services, and equipment at competitive prices to achieve cost savings and support project success.
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies aligned with organizational goals, ensuring alignment with budget, schedule, and quality expectations.
- Implement and continuously improve procurement processes to enhance efficiency, reduce lead times, and mitigate supply chain risks.
- Identify, evaluate, and cultivate relationships with reliable suppliers to ensure long-term value, innovation, and performance.
- Analyze market trends, supplier performance, and cost drivers to inform purchasing decisions and negotiate favorable terms.
- Collaborate with project teams and estimators during preconstruction to ensure early procurement planning and alignment with project needs.
- Interpret technical specifications and suggest alternative materials or methods to improve cost-effectiveness and quality.
- Conduct purchasing research to explore new sources and innovative products.
- Competitively bid and negotiate maximum discounts for frequently purchased commodities and equipment.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner closely with internal stakeholders to proactively identify procurement challenges and develop effective solutions.
- Serve as a key liaison between procurement and departments such as Project Management, Estimating, Field Operations, and Accounting to ensure alignment and responsiveness to business needs.
- Support cross-functional initiatives by providing procurement expertise and ensuring timely delivery of materials and services.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with internal teams and external partners to manage expectations, resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement.
- Actively contribute to department objectives and company goals through collaboration, innovation, and process discipline.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
- Demonstrated proficiency in all Buyer responsibilities.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint required.
- Four (4) years of previous business supervisory and/or construction-related experience with responsibilities for warehouse, inventory control, and buying required.
- Proven experience in setting up and refining procurement processes is required.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills to build and maintain supplier relationships.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and supply chain optimization techniques is a plus.
- CPM or CPSM certification is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience preferred.

The pay range for this position is $64,890- $105,900 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
