The hiring range for this role is:

$115,000.00 - $130,000.00

This is the lowest to highest salary we, in good faith, believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the hiring range and this hiring range may also be modified in the future. A candidate's position within the hiring range may be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs.This job is also eligible for annual bonus incentive pay.

The Sr. Business Systems Analyst is responsible for eliciting, developing, documenting and certifying business and user requirements that align with business owner needs and intent. We are seeking a driven and adaptable Analyst to play a key role in advancing our technology initiatives within a dynamic startup environment. This role will collaborate closely with business stakeholders and engineering teams to gather and define requirements, support solution development, and oversee testing and validation efforts. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills to evaluate existing systems and data flows, while also identifying opportunities to integrate new initiatives into our broader architectural framework. This is a critical position for ensuring technology solutions are both scalable and aligned with evolving business objectives.

Description

Works directly with business owners, business partners and project teams to elicit/gather business and user requirements that are aligned with the needs and intent of the business to include:

  • "To Be" analysis: facilitate discovery sessions to understand the desired future state and document high-level epics and feature-level user stories.

  • High level requirements/user story elicitation: collaborate closely with product owners, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to define and prioritize user and business requirements through workshops, interviews, and collaborative story refinement sessions.

  • Development of detailed requirements/user stories and product details: elaborate on the high-level business requirements to document the detailed business requirements/user stories. Break down features into actionable user stories with clear acceptance criteria for iterative development.

  • Maintain a shared understanding of key business terms, processes, and concepts using domain models or glossaries.

Requirements Documentation & Lifecycle Management

  • Continuously maintain and refine user stories, ensuring they are INVEST-compliant (Independent, Negotiable, Valuable, Estimable, Small, Testable).

  • Manage backlog grooming activities and ensure alignment with evolving business needs.

  • Ensure requirements are validated with business partners and verified through regular demos and feedback loops.

  • Use Agile tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps) to manage, version, and track requirements and their changes across sprints/releases.

  • Facilitate sign-offs when appropriate, but encourage ongoing collaboration over rigid documentation

Develops and maintains testing and validation requirements and processes

  • Partner with QA and engineering to ensure user stories are testable and tied to clear acceptance criteria.

  • Support creation and maintenance of traceability matrices when needed, aligning test cases with user stories and business objectives.

  • Perform gap analysis to ensure business value is preserved through design and development.

  • Participate in backlog reviews, sprint demos, and retrospectives to validate solution alignment

Stakeholder and Business Engagement

  • Identify key stakeholders and SMEs and manage their involvement throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Facilitate modeling of current vs. future state processes using tools like flowcharts to support change analysis and impact assessments.

  • Review and synthesize existing documentation to inform story writing and scope definition.

Resource Estimation & Planning Support

  • Partner with project managers and delivery teams to estimate the level of effort required for business analysis activities, helping align resourcing, funding, and timelines to project scope.

Education, Experience and Certification

Preferred

Bachelors Degree

  • Bachelors in business administration, statistics, information technology, information systems, project management or related discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in a business analytical discipline such as information technology, business analysis, process evaluation and / or analytical research.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in business / user requirements elicitation, gathering, documentation and management
  • Minimum of 2 years applied experience developing user stories in an Agile environment

Experience Required/Preferred

  • Experience working in an Agile SCRUM environment utilizing 2-week Sprints
  • Technical experience with systems, networking, databases, Web development, Mobile App development, and user support
  • 1 year experience with Agile requirements management tools such as Jira, Rally, VersionOne, Contour and Storyteller

Required

  • Database management and data extraction experience

Certifications:

Preferred: Certification - Certified Scrum Master/Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)

Preferred: Certification - Data & Intelligence\Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of Agile development methodologies
  • Working knowledge of software systems and technology to include relational databases, client/ server applications and web-based systems
  • Advanced applied requirements/user story development and management expertise
  • Proficiency with presentation software, spreadsheets, and word processing programs (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to present findings and recommendations concisely
  • Analytical skills; ability to develop methodologies, approaches, and concepts to solve business problems and answer analytical questions
  • Effective communications skills verbally and orally, with strong presentation skills
