The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board has an amazing opportunity to join a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team within the Community Residential Services program, where we provide care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, serious mental illness, and co-occurring substance abuse in a residential group home setting and supportive housing apartments. Our treatment philosophy is comprehensive, dynamic, integrated, and recovery based. In this role, you will supervise nursing staff at various residential locations across Fairfax County and will need to travel to meet with staff at all locations. Collaboration is essential as you will be part of a treatment team that includes substance abuse counselors, mental health counselors, nurses, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, and physicians. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. You will utilize an integrated approach to enhance patient outcomes, serving as a catalyst for patient empowerment and successful clinical outcomes through relationship-building and access to knowledge. Evidence-based care guidelines will be employed for service delivery. As part of the leadership team, you will help determine processes, policies, procedures, and workflows, ensuring effective communication and the proper dissemination of information to staff and programs for optimal care delivery. The role of Behavioral Health Nursing Supervisor is ideal for a nurse with a strong medical background and the necessary skills and knowledge for working in a behavioral health and substance use disorder setting. You will provide both clinical and administrative oversight to nurses at various locations.
This position is Monday through Friday, and onsite at various locations. May include weekend on call rotations as needed. Here are some of the benefits CSB employees enjoy:
- *The BHN Supervisor position includes a signing bonus for fully qualified new merit county employees in the amount of $10,000 (full-time) or qualified employees transferring from Fairfax County Public Schools.
- The population of Fairfax County is very diverse where 39% of residents speak a language other than English at home (Spanish, Asian/Pacific Islander, Indo-European, and others). CSB recognizes that staff competence speaking a variety of languages is necessary to meet client needs and encourages candidate's bilingual in English and a foreign language to apply to this opportunity. - In addition, to recognize and reinforce the importance of professional development and enhance future recruitment of licensed professionals, if approved, the licensure supervisors will receive a stipend of $1,500 paid out biweekly over a 12-month period whether for one or more Department of Health licensure candidates.

- Provides staff supervision for all clinical aspects of the program;
- Plans, assigns, and reviews work of team members;
- Interviews and selects candidates for various positions;
- Performs complex evaluations and makes independent diagnoses using Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD) - 10;
- Provides individual, family and group treatment;
- Maintains a caseload of diverse, complex, and high risk individuals;
- Develops treatment plans and adapts treatment interventions and approaches;
- Provides assessment and treatment services to individuals presenting a wide variety of emotional, social, and mental disorders over a range of severity;
- Consults with professionals on a variety of problems including delivery of needed services for clinically complex cases;
- Provides liaison to community agencies to facilitate communication and service provision for individuals requiring multiple services;
- Develops and implements program activities and services, including training and educational activities;
- Under direction, develops and implements a specialized program which is designed to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of service provision;
- Supervises day-to-day program operations;
- Promotes awareness of program services through presentations;
- Develops and monitors program's policies and procedures;
- Ensures that program is in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local policies, regulations, and statutes;
- Mediates and facilitates inter-and intra-program issues needing a systems perspective;
- Plans, recommends, and executes quality initiatives related to mental health standards;
- Monitors and analyzes the impact of psychotropic medication on an individual's functioning and mental status;
- Provides crisis stabilization and crisis management;
- Ensures that a facility is maintained in good operating condition and compliant with health and safety, licensure, and regulatory requirements.

- Thorough knowledge of the elements of a comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessment and interviewing techniques;

- Knowledge of major schools of treatment inclusive of substance abuse prevention and treatment methods/techniques;
- Core skills in motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapies;

- Knowledge of clinical supervisory methods and techniques;
- Knowledge of alcohol and/or drug addiction and the physiological and psychological effects;

Employment Standards
-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited college with at least a master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or nursing plus three years of clinical experience or a doctoral degree in psychology, social, counseling or nursing plus one year of clinical experience. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
- Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia or a multi-state licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia.
- MANDT Certifications within 90 days of appointment and annually thereafter.
- First Aid and CPR certification within 90 days of appointment and maintained throughout Community Services Board employment.
- Valid driver's license with fewer than six demerit points (or equivalent in another state) maintained throughout employment.
- Qualified Intellectual Disability Residential Specialist (QIDRS) within 60 days or appointment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, a driving record check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter. Requires a National Provider Identifier.
This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with individuals with mental illness, substance use disorders and/or intellectual/developmental disabilities.
- Supervisory experience
- Nursing experience working in a hospital or nursing home.
- Acute care nursing experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Provide nursing care/assistance including assisting large adults in hygiene and personal care; sit, walk, stand, bend and write as needed; use keyboard to enter data in electronic health record and review data on computer monitor; observe individual behavior/appearance; converse with coworkers & provide training that simulates nursing responsibilities involving individuals & equipment.
