Job Announcement

This is a part-time job share position scheduled to work 40-hours per pay period (a consecutive two-week period). Both positions in the job share report to the same supervisor and will work no more than half of a full-time merit position. One position is currently available for a part-time Physician Assistant. This position is eligible for all benefits available to full-time merit employees, including leave accrual and health benefits, but may be subject to higher premium payments for certain benefits in accordance with county policy. Leave accrual and holidays are prorated according to total scheduled hours. Membership in the county retirement system is mandatory.

In conjunction with the Operational Medical Director, Quality Manager, and the Battalion Chief of EMS Training; develops, conducts, and evaluates a curriculum for initial and continuing emergency medical education and skills training for operational personnel. Documents training efforts, identifies and implements remediation action plans as needed to ensure continual improvement of both individual and overall system performance. Collaborates with a wide variety of civilian and uniformed personnel.

  • Develops and presents various training and orientation programs for nursing personnel, health care providers and other agency staff members.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of public health/medical theory and practice;
  • Knowledge of various laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures;
  • Knowledge of effects of prescribed medications and when their usage is indicated;
  • Ability to obtain histories and perform physical examinations, laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures;
  • Ability to assess medical records and results of tests;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, medical professionals, health care professionals and citizens.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited four-year university with a bachelor's degree; plus, A master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program; plus, one year of experience as a certified physician assistant.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three to five years' experience in pre-hospital or emergency medicine.
  • Extensive background in Emergency Medical Services.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office 365 software.
  • National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certificate or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic certificate.
  • American Heart Association Advanced Care Life Support Instructor certificate.
  • American Heart Association Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation Instructor certificate.
  • American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor certificate.
  • National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians Prehospital Trauma Life Support
  • Instructor certificate.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Certification from the Virginia State Board of Medicine as a Physician Assistant.
Certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) by passing the Physician Assistants National Certifying Exam (PANCE), administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and sanctions screening to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to bend, lift, squat for periods of time while training. Able to operate keyboard driven equipment, light lifting of printout boxes (up to 30 lbs.). All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
