Job Summary

The Central Processing Educator will develop and provide orientation, continuing education, competency and training, and staff development for the Central Processing Unit (CPU). This positions' primary responsibility is for developing, implementing, tracking and managing all departmental educational activities that include training programs /curriculum and instruction for both newly hired and current staff members. This position will be responsible for writing, reviewing, and updating unit competencies and assisting management in updating and or developing department policy and procedures. Provides support to all staff to maintain Continuing Education Unit (CEU) opportunities offered to employees as well as assistance in certication / re-certication.
Incumbent must be able to organize departmental in services and coordinate vendor in-services for continuous training.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Base Certification requirement (one of option A or B) A) CRCST from Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) B) CSPDT from The Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or a combination of experience, education and/or training
  • Five (5) years of recent demonstrated experience working as a Sterile Technician in a Sterile Processing Department.
  • Minimum (1) year experience as a Trainer/Educator, including experience developing and implementing educational and training plans for various roles in the department.
  • * Demonstrated experience practicing and implementing operational practices according to AAMI Standards and Guidelines. * Experience with disinfection, sterilization, packaging, and infection control practices and principles. * Experience developing and implementing educational and training plans for various roles in the department. * Experience planning, coordinating, and conducting in-services for staff to ensure safe, current and appropriate industry practices. Experience and a knowledge base of a surgical atmosphere. * Extensive knowledge of AAMI (American Association of Medical Instrumentation) recommended practices and regulatory agency guidelines as it pertains to sterile processing. * Ability to maintain current knowledge on industry practices and guidelines to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and inspections. * Demonstrated experience developing and updating competencies that reect the skills required to perform various work. Working knowledge on training and development, performance management and workplace learning. Ability to apply knowledge to achieve successful organizational outcomes. * Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact and present to the target and diverse audience. * Able to use a computer to communicate with email, retrieve data and create/edit competencies, power point presentations, and policy & procedures. * Ability to set work priorities and establish/complete deadlines. * Ability to establish effective interpersonal & working relationships with all staff. * Must possess effective presentation skills, utilize principles of adult learning theory, and model professional behavior. Detailed oriented, with strong organizational and project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in teams. * Able to work well under deadlines in a fast-paced changing environment and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently. * Apply/enforce policy and procedure when making decisions. * Ability to make independent clinical decisions in patient care matters. Ability to work accurately and quickly under pressure. * Maintain an awareness of changes in procedures and protocols. * With minimal supervision and with signicant autonomy, identies problems and initiates appropriate actions. Demonstrates good judgment and independent decision-making in handling situations not covered by written or verbal instructions. * Maintain condentiality. * Assist in planning and organizing workow well; meet established turn-around-times, and deadlines. * Ability to integrate the understanding of UCDHS' goals and objectives, commitments and projections within a service-oriented healthcare environment. * Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks concurrently. Maintain a clean, organized work area. * Ability to prioritize/reorganize work in response to STAT/Emergency requests. Department Overview

Central Processing is one department within Perioperative Services that supports operating rooms by cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing surgical instrumentation and equipment. The Central Processing unit also supports Patient Care Services, Ambulatory Services and the Primary Care Network: within the health system by cleaning, disinfecting reusable equipment and the cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization of surgical instrumentation used by these services. Central Processing cleans and restocks all emergency crash carts; rst responder bags, airway boxes and ICU transport bags. The Central Processing manages, scal, materiel, and human resources to support the planning and coordination of surgical care and other patient care in the hospital and clinics.

Work Environment
