Perkins Coie LLP is seeking a talented Foreign Tax Manager to join its team. The Foreign Tax Manager will be responsible for managing all foreign tax matters for Perkins Coie entities by partnering with outside service providers and internal Finance team members. This individual will monitor and analyze firmwide transactions to determine tax consequences, ensuring compliance and providing strategic tax guidance to support the firm's global operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation.
- Provide information on tax planning opportunities and assist with their implementation.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for all foreign tax functions.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, and work with the supervisor to create strategies that capitalize on changes in tax legislation.
- Serve as a resource to attorneys and business services teams, providing tax guidance on foreign operations.
- Manage all aspects of people growth in various foreign jurisdictions, including assessment of related tax implications.
- Plan for tax implications associated with expansion into new foreign jurisdictions, including entity, ownership, and transactional structuring.
- Gather and review information from internal resources necessary for filing foreign tax estimates, extensions, tax returns, and VAT filings.
- Communicate information requests and coordinate with outside service providers to ensure timely filing of all foreign tax returns.
- Coordinate with the Tax Compliance Manager on taxable income estimates related to foreign source income.
- Create and maintain a comprehensive tax calendar for all foreign tax filings, and communicate due dates to relevant stakeholders.
- Manage, review, and code billings from outside service providers.
- Review and respond to tax notices as received.
- Manage audits of foreign tax filings as necessary.
- Audit internal tax filings for accuracy and compliance.
- Document internal tax positions, materiality thresholds, and other significant transactions.
SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively with partners, affiliates, and their CPAs.
- Working knowledge of flow-through entities and VAT.
- Self-starter with strong initiative.
- Effective multitasking and prioritization skills.
- Strong organizational, accounting, analytical, problem-solving, planning, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships across operational groups.
- Fluent in MS Office applications, especially Excel.
- Detail-oriented while maintaining focus on the larger picture.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Requires a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or equivalent.
- Requires a master's degree in taxation, or equivalent.
- Requires an ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) qualification.
- Requires a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible tax and accounting experience.
