The Office of Financial Aid is seeking a
temporary Financial Aid Default Specialist to support efforts in reducing federal student loan defaults and promoting financial literacy among students. This position plays a vital role in guiding at-risk borrowers toward successful loan repayment by providing education, resources, and personalized support.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting proactive outreach to students identified as at risk of loan default
- Serving as a knowledgeable resource on loan repayment options and borrower responsibilities
- Coordinating with internal departments and external loan servicers
- Providing administrative support and tracking student engagement and outcomes
This role is essential in improving student financial wellness and ensuring compliance with federal regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to student success. |
Description of Work |
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct outreach to borrowers via phone, email, or messaging to discuss loan repayment options and financial planning strategies
- Refer students to ECMC for support with deferment, forbearance, consolidation, and other available loan solutions
- Maintain detailed and compliant records of all borrower interactions in accordance with federal regulations
- Lead financial literacy initiatives to educate students on responsible loan management and budgeting
- Prepare and present regular reports on default prevention efforts and outcomes to leadership
- Provide loan counseling support at campus locations for both federal and alternative loan programs
- Collaborate with ECMC and other financial literacy partners to enhance and streamline outreach strategies
- Plan and deliver presentations, workshops, and participate in campus and community outreach events
- Respond promptly and accurately to borrower inquiries, ensuring clear communication of loan and servicer information
- Assist in developing and editing communications, including email campaigns and official documents
- Support special projects and perform other duties as assigned to advance the mission of the Office of Financial Aid

Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position |
Qualifications
* Minimum bachelor's degree
* Two years' experience in higher education, or counseling
* Some knowledge of federal student aid programs and repayment options
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
* Strong communication and organizational skills with a student-focused mindset |
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation |

Please Note: This is a
temporary position, and the selected candidate will be limited to working
up to 29 hours per week.
