Job Summary

The Recreation Supervisor - Marketing works closely with Milwaukee Recreation's marketing team to maintain effective two-way communication with all internal and external stakeholders. The marketing team functions as a full-service, in-house public relations & advertising agency. As such, the department's entire staff relies on the marketing team to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of information. The successful candidate will be a service-driven self-starter who is accustomed to a fast-paced agency environment where high-quality creative work is developed both independently and in close collaboration with colleagues.

This position focuses on the coordination and production of graphic designs (50%) and photography/video production (40%). The remaining work will support social media, public relations, and community engagement (10%). The position requires general knowledge of marketing principles and practices with a primary emphasis on visual & multimedia communications (design, photography, and videography). This position will support all marketing initiatives for Milwaukee Recreation and the Milwaukee City Conference (MCC).

Salary Range: $64,538 - $92,688

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. May substitute 2 years of experience for 1 year of education (e.g., no bachelor's degree would require at least 8 years of experience).
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in the development and administration of design and marketing plans/projects.
    Proficiency with software commonly used in print, web, and video production. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Properly insured vehicle for job-related travel.
Responsibilities

  • Works closely with Milwaukee Recreation's multidisciplinary marketing team to complete design projects for the department while coordinating and collaborating with various internal and external vendors, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Works with the marketing team to follow and build upon the style/branding guides for Milwaukee Recreation and the MCC. Ensures visual communications are aligned with brand strategy and standards by providing design review and oversight.
  • Regularly captures and edits photos & videos to showcase programs and represent the diversity of participants, staff, and programs (which frequently take place during evenings and weekends).
  • Maintains and updates existing design projects, producing high-quality designs that align with brand standards.
  • Performs research to generate ideas, share concepts, and review best industry practices.
  • Applies design principles and strategy to create human-centered graphics and layouts for a range of print and digital media.
  • Works with supervisor to execute concepts by studying information and materials provided by department staff.
  • Manages the creative design process from concept to completion.
  • Illustrates concepts by submitting rough layouts of art and copy for approval before proceeding with final designs.
  • Proofreads to produce accurate, high-quality work.
  • Completes projects by working closely with a range of District staff.
  • Develops complete design systems that unite Milwaukee Recreation and MCC programs with brand standards and project goals.
  • Manages communications, executes design revisions, and maintains the file system for all design projects.
  • Develops and implements individualized marketing/communications campaigns to meet the specific needs of the department.
  • Supports storytelling efforts in various mediums to promote Milwaukee Recreation's programs and services.
  • Assists with Milwaukee Recreation activities as needed.
  • Serves on various community or department committees as required and/or assigned.
  • Actively supports the MPS Five Priorities for Success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
