Job Description

The Sinclair School of Nursing has an opportunity for someone who enjoys supporting and serving as a primary resource for students and appreciates the integral role quality academic advising plays in their success. Our consistently top-ranked nursing school cultivates world-class nurses, educators and researchers and is part of the university's academic health center. As an academic advisor, you will be part of a committed and high-performing team that embraces this philosophy by striving to provide an inclusive environment where all students feel welcome and receive guidance and advice on navigating toward their academic goals. The academic advisor will:

  • Advise and encourage undergraduate students on a variety of academic issues such as course planning, academic challenges, and interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with students regarding academic progress.
  • Develop and present plans to students for setting and obtaining academic goals, career selection, and personal development.
  • Monitor and update student degree audits.
  • Assist students with course registration.
  • Participate in on-and off-campus student recruitment events when needed.
  • Provide active referrals to other campus offices and resources.
  • May mentor student workers.
Shift

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Empathetic, positive, and professional disposition.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.

The following experience is not required but a plus:

  • Working in a university academic advising setting
  • With course registration software, e.g. PeopleSoft, Banner, etc.
  • With calendar management and early alert systems, e.g. Starfish
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $42,000 - $45,000

Grade: GGS 08
