Full-time, Rotating Shifts GENERAL SUMMARY: Physician Assistants (PA) and Nurse Practitioners (NP) are graduates of an accredited educational program and are nationally certified and state licensed professionals. The scope of practice is determined by state law and licensure, facility policy, education, professional judgement, personal experience and practice agreement. Physician assistants are independent prescribers of Schedule II-V controlled substances; using their own DEA number and signature. PA or NP will serve as a clinician for the Cardiovascular Surgery Service Line. Will manage patient care throughout the entire spectrum of hospital stay from admission, consultation to discharge and follow-up clinic visits. Special focus on the perioperative care of patients in the Surgical ICU. Additionally APPs will have a secondary focus on Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine. Training for this service will include initial orientation, training in the insertion of central venous and arterial catheter devices and proficiency in the use of Point of Care Ultrasound for diagnostics. In partnership with CV Surgeon and other Physician Staff the CVS APP will diagnose and treat illnesses, prescribe medications and order diagnostic labs and imaging studies. Provider will serve as an ambassador to the service providing Patient and Family Centered Care. Additionally APP may sit on committees and participate in Quality and Process Improvement Initiatives.
