Intro To Position

The Managing Director of NPM Creative leads a collaborative team of innovators that builds custom sponsorship activations, tells the stories of NPR's most high-value brand partners and manages sponsorship product integrations across NPR's digital platforms. This executive role will drive revenue growth by partnering with teams across NPM and NPR to create new sponsorship opportunities and evangelize the team's high-caliber creative work. This person will lead and collaborate with the sales teams on pitches and build relationships with creative leads at agencies and brands.

The NPM Creative team is the creative and product development team within NPM, managing a broad range of products and responsibilities. This team produces custom audio and visual creative for brands, conducts and analyzes creative research, and manages ad tech integrations on NPR.org, the NPR App and NPR's newsletters. The team approaches all of its work with mindful attention to NPR's ethics and values and prioritizes transparency and accuracy in its content creation.

As a manager, this role should serve as a coach and advocate for a high-performing team with extensive experience. They should be collaborative and open to feedback, while providing clear direction and goals for the team.


Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the goals and OKRs for the NPM Creative team in alignment with NPM's strategic plan, business goals and corporate values.
  • Manage and lead the NPM Creative team, including five direct reports and three skip-level reports. Support the Supervising Producer in hiring freelance production support, as needed.
  • Drive revenue growth and sales for NPM Creative's products and services by collaborating with NPM's sales team and building brand and agency relationships.
  • Collaborate with NPM sales leadership and NPR stakeholders to drive innovation in how brands connect with the NPR audience through storytelling.
  • Foster research and innovation within the team and across NPM to develop market-driven sponsorship products and services.
  • Represent NPM Creative's successes and achievements across NPM, NPR and the industry at large.
  • Advance efforts to reduce customer churn and optimize acquisition costs by enhancing product offerings, improving client experience, and delivering measurable performance improvements that generate renewals.
  • Maintain and nurture NPM Creative's culture of collaboration, excellence and innovation.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders at NPM and NPR to drive approvals and prioritization for new sponsorship activations and revenue-driving product opportunities.
  • Partner with the Office of the General Counsel to ensure regulatory compliance on sponsorship products and creative.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7-10 years in brand partnerships or branded creative production
  • 5+ years leading, motivating and guiding a team of creative professionals
  • 3+ years working with or managing product development teams
  • Demonstrable ability to manage complex revenue lines and grow revenue
  • Creative storytelling capabilities and a strong understanding of production processes
  • Experience incorporating audience research into creative recommendations and executions
  • Track record of building and fostering agency and brand relationships
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; experience communicating with executive stakeholders and senior clients
  • A management style that values coaching, collaboration, independence and feedback
  • A strong commitment to ethics, inclusion and respect


Must be willing to travel for client meetings, management meetings, and conferences


Education Requirement

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in work experience


Work Location

  • Hybrid Permitted: This is a hybrid permitted role. Some aspects of this role include duties that are better performed at an NPR facility. The employee must be on-site at the New York City or Washington, D.C. office twice monthly.


Required Skills

  • Comfortable with Microsoft Outlook, Google Workspace and Project Management software

  • This is a full-time, exempt position.


Compensation

Salary Range: The U.S.-based anticipated salary rate for this opportunity is $140,000 plus benefits. The rate displayed reflects the maximum salary NPM expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.

Benefits: NPM offers access to comprehensive benefits for employees and dependents. Regular, full-time employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in NPM's benefits options. Benefits include access to health and wellness, paid time off, and financial well-being. Plan options include medical, dental, vision, life/ accidental death and dismemberment, long-term disability, short-term disability, and voluntary retirement savings to all eligible NPM employees.
