Job Responsibilities
- Manage air, wastewater, and waste management to assure compliance with environmental regulations and to control compliance costs.
- Ensure environmental programs comply with state, federal and local regulations.
- Provide technical support in managing environmental compliance of the plant.
- Provide environmental expertise and training to support plant operations.
- Maintain knowledge of regulatory practices (40 CFR) and procedures including maintaining all aspects of keeping appropriate records to demonstrate compliance.
- Manage safety programs to assure compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Ensure safety programs comply with state, federal and local regulations.
- Provide technical support in managing safety compliance of the plant.
- Provide safety expertise and training to support plant operations.
- Maintain knowledge of regulatory practices (29 CFR) and procedures including maintaining all aspects of keeping appropriate records to demonstrate compliance.
- Administer and implement corporate E.H.S. policies & programs which may include, but not limited to, ISO 14001, Responsible Care and FOCUS.
- Manage, direct and coordinate activities at the local level to meet corporate responsibilities.
- Maintain a current knowledge of regulatory requirements.
- Administer SH&E departmental budget effectively.
- Provide first aid medical care, facilitate regulatory testing & manage worker compensation activities.
- Interface and negotiate with all levels of regulatory agencies.
- Direct and provide SHE training to appropriate employees.
- Manage and coordinate waste disposal activities reducing potentially responsible party (PRP) liabilities.
- Manage activities on site, other duties as assigned include, but not limited to, having a good Safety, Health, and Environmental Management System, working with local communities, and United Way campaign drive director.
- Fill in for other departmental managers during their absence, and supervise production during assigned weekends
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety, or related field or at least 5 years SHE experience.
- Knowledge of OSHA, environmental and hazardous waste. Some knowledge of wastewater treatment regulations would be beneficial.
- Proficient in the use of computers, MS based applications and the internet.
- Strong verbal, analytical and teaming skills is preferred.
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines is preferred.
- Ability to present training classes preferred.
- At least one to three years of SH&E experience preferred.
- Knowledge of workers compensation requirements, accident investigation and root cause analysis preferred.
- General knowledge of first aid and general industrial health preferred.
