The Ideal Candidate

As a Buyer for Journeys, you will be responsible for managing the buying cycle for multiple brands or sub-categories that have a high impact on the overall Journeys Group sales. You will possess strong decision-making and negotiation skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate should have the ability to choose proper product assortments, understand market trends, and have retail management experience.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Write purchase orders and develop monthly flows for product buys, including size curve balancing.
  • Develop product lines for sale in Journeys stores.
  • Analyze product sell-through data and merchandise reports to identify opportunities and anomalies in sales. Adjust orders based on actual sales results (increase, decrease, cancel).
  • Negotiate with vendors on requests for returns and markdowns, including damages, and initiate requests.
  • Communicate with retail store employees and respond to product and brand questions.
  • Evaluate product lines from new vendors and make recommendations on whether to test new brands in stores.
  • Communicate buy plans with SCM and Merchandisers.
  • Travel to trade shows, vendor meetings, and Journeys markets.


Experience and Skills You'll Need to Have

  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in buying, merchandising, or as an associate buyer. Related experience in retail or a product-focused role will also be considered.
  • Retail store management experience, preferably with Journeys Group.
  • Fundamental math to calculate margins, sales, percent sell-through, and markdowns.
  • Systems and computer skills.
