ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
NOTE: The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position or to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.
Inspect water meters, register, wires, and radio components for damage, tampering and any safety sensitive situations; inform supervisor by utilizing work orders system and verbal communications.
Make any needed repairs to cut wires, replace damaged radio components and causes, meter boxes, lids, and covers.
Responsible for programming radio components for new water meter installations. Deactivate all radio components removed from the field and deactivate and reactivate after repairs have been made.
Assist water crews in location of covered meters.
Report all other water leaks and conditions to the Meter Systems Analyst, Senior for repair or maintenance.
Review and report any electric metering issues to the Meter Systems Analyst, Senior.
Perform meter shut off and on for nonpayment, both electric and water.
Perform meter initial, final, and re-reads daily, both electric and water.
Perform general repair as needed; replacing lids, cleaning meter boxes
Investigate suspected meter tampering and, if questionable, report information to supervisor for further investigation.
Perform routine office tasks, including but not limited to emailing, scanning, and filing.
Learn and observe proper safety precautions, particularly when working on or near equipment and energized and de-energized lines up to 7200 volts.
Assist in the safe operation, inspection, and maintenance of equipment and devices related to electric distribution and transmission.
Perform other work as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of departmental and municipal rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
Working knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules, and practices and the ability to transmit such knowledge to subordinates.
Working knowledge of operation and routine maintenance of lightweight equipment.
Working knowledge of entire geographical utility service area.
Working knowledge of meter locations throughout the utility service area.
Skill in the operation of modern office equipment, computers, and software, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Skill in the use of hand held computer devices used to program water and electric meters and gather GPS coordinates.
Ability to read water and electric meters accurately and rapidly
Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations.
Ability to safely operate a variety of automotive vehicles, light equipment, various hand and power tools.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, city officials, and the general public.
Ability to communicate information tactfully and impartially, both in person and in writing with all staff, city officials, and the general public.
Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the City of Winter Park Core Competencies.
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to operate equipment and vehicles in a safe manner under various conditions.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and keep accurate records.
This position is performed with working knowledge - the incumbent has ability to recall and apply important and commonly-used information from relevant source documents or information in a particular subject field.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Physical
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force repetitively to lift, carry, push, pull, and reposition objects.
Ability to traverse about a variety of city facilities/jobsites, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to ascend/descend stairs, scaffolds, and ladders.
Ability to remain stationary at jobsites for extended periods of time and repetitively operate related equipment for repairs/maintenance.
Ability to manipulate objects, demonstrate small, precise movements, and operate necessary equipment such as small hand and power tools repetitively or continuously.
Environmental
Tasks may require frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, sun, extreme temperatures, odors, dirt and dust, loud noises, high voltage, and hazardous chemicals, etc.
Sensory
Tasks require the manipulation of objects and demonstration of small, precise movements, the ability to detect and distinguish various features of one's surroundings, and the ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with others.
