Position Summary |
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.
The Government Relations team is seeking a full-time Manager, Government and International Relations to further the Museum's mission and strategic objectives in close collaboration with other departments across the Museum.
The Manager should be able to adapt quickly to evolving priorities and have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the development and implementation of government affairs strategies to support the Museum's strategic plan and goals.
- Track legislative and regulatory developments at the local, state and federal levels. Analyze their potential impact on the Museum.
- Track and maintain records of meetings, communications and key issues related to government affairs.
- Coordinate and support international delegation visits, ensuring smooth logistics and maintaining accurate records of all engagement.
- Assist in identifying potential city and state grant opportunities.
- Support drafting and collecting supporting materials for grant applications.
- Assist in the preparation of reports, newsletters and other documents for internal and external circulation among relevant partners.
- Coordinate logistics for government meetings, events and large conferences.
The expected salary range for the Manager, Government and International Relations is $65,000/annual - $75,000/annual. The

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience. |
Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in public policy, political science, international affairs or another related field.
- Three years experience in government affairs, public policy or advocacy.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Strong understanding of federal, state and local government structures and processes.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with government officials and other external partners.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Related professional experience in a museum, cultural institution or nonprofit.

Physical Demands |
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
